rhino 0 #1 July 21, 2005 If you do, or have ever used them... Why did you do it? What was behind you starting to use your front risers? Rhino
Icon134 0 #2 July 21, 2005 They're fun to play with because they make the canopy dive which increase the lift and speed upon comming out of the dive... I do this at altitude of course... I don't have enough experience to play w/them close to the ground... Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...
tdog 0 #3 July 21, 2005 QuoteWhy did you do it? Because they were there. I took a canopy class that you did not even have to have an "A" to take, and students with 10 jumps were even learning how to use risers. (note - no high performance landings yet.) Maxim 0 #4 July 21, 2005 i have been playing with front risers pretty much since my 3rd jump. during my aff i would ask one of the chief instructors drills to do under canopy... i think my first taste at them was trying to warp my canopy.. pull down on left back riser and right front riser apparently its a useful thing CRW people do when waiting for slots on big stacks. Since then i have been using my rears and fronts on pretty much every jump. Life is Great. Even Greater what we do with it.
Maxx 1 #5 July 21, 2005 I pull them down because they have dive loops attached and sometimes I hear them whispering "Pull me! Pull me!" and then I cannot hold me back. Max

What was behind you starting to use your front risers? first time - just to know my canopy f bit more some times later to try to fly thrugh the strong wing and don't land to the forest (was a bad idea - ended up on a tree =/)Why drink and drive, if you can smoke and fly? Peej 0 #9 July 21, 2005 I started doing double fronts at around 50 or 60 jumps on a 170 Hornet loaded at around 1.2. I stayed with these till around 100 jumps when i started on 90's. I sought canopy coaching at around 150 jumps. Then broke myself at around 260 jumps on a 90 deg riser turn to double fronts. I'm now doing 180's. Dougiefresh 0 #10 July 21, 2005 I started playing with risers at about 50 jumps, up high of course. I just started doing double fronts before landing. I had been bringing the canopy in a little fast for about 30 jumps prior to that by doing a short final and toggle whipping into it. Dragging my toes across the grass is fun, even if it is only for 5 feet or so. The reason I started is so I can fly my canopy (sabre2 170 loaded 1:1) to its fullest before I downsize.Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams
Canuck 0 #11 July 21, 2005 QuoteTry doing CRW without using your front risers No problem - especially for rotations. Off the top, turn left, turn right, flare, next. Canuck

selbbub78 0 #13 July 21, 2005 when doing CRW you use them ALL the time. dgskydive 0 #14 July 21, 2005 QuoteWhat was behind you starting to use your front risers? Around jump # 150 or so I did my last toggle turn on to final (other then the occasional flat turn) right after I pulled one to low and I didn't have enough time to get back under the canopy before smacking the ground and leaving a 20 ft. long ditch behind me. OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still got the pictures and video from that jump. I was wearing the camera and you can see my shadow come up at me so fast it is scary to this day. I was a very lucky boy. I was informed that I could learn to fly my canppy better and should start using front risers. 1200 jumps later I am still figuring it out.Dom
Maxim 0 #15 July 22, 2005 QuoteI intially started and learned to get out of high wind quickly. Yeah i also used them for that during student progression. Life is Great. Even Greater what we do with it.
BenediktDE 2 #16 July 22, 2005 I tried to use them but can hardly pull them so I am not able enough to dose how much I pull them. So I stay with some rear riser playing at the moment. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

DeNReN 0 #18 July 22, 2005 I started playing with them at about jump 5...but never really did much on the student manta 288's I was flying then......could get the canopy to turn but not by much. Now that I am flying my new Tri 175 @ 1.1:1.....weeeeeeeee.....although coming through 360 deg the riser pressure gets pretty fierce.....have managed to get about 540 deg before haveing the dive loops ripped from my grip Front riser sprials are required for the CSPA A CoP. mdrejhon 8 #19 July 22, 2005 During student progression but UP HIGH ONLY... (Then a test 180 swoop at 3000ft at jump #60) Haven't yet touched front risers yet under 1500 feet. But I want to try straight-in double fronts when I get some canopy coaching. I don't want to be making a damn mistake while playing chicken with the big ball called Earth. LearningTOfly 0 #20 July 25, 2005 Started using them for the approach after jump number five or six, and have been on them ever since. Doing ninety's now... and front risering thereafter if altitude is still in excess. It's fun stuff.
