riharpat 0 #1 July 22, 2005 Forgive me if this is in the wrong forum. I have a question. I have not yet made my 1st jump, I'm thinking about taking a AFF course somewhere in north Florida (any good DZ's out that way). About 10 years ago the Navy gave my a collapsed lung as a parting gift, (medically discharged). I have flow in unpressurized aircraft several times since then with no problems. Has anyone had a similar injury and enjoyed the sport? Thanks in advance
bodypilot1 0 #2 July 22, 2005 Unless your lung is permanently collapsed for some reason, a past injury as such that shouldn't bother you in freefall. Are you physically able to run without extensive loss of breath or dizziness? Be safe. Edwww.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com
Beerlight 0 #3 July 22, 2005 This forum is full of very knowledgeable people and some that will totally bullshit you. My advice is to ask your doctor. If able, an "aeromedical" physician schooled in the physiological hazards of flying/flight with associated pressure changes. Good ruck......
GravityGirl 0 #4 July 23, 2005 I can't say. But my nephew returned from Iraq with similar injuries. Collapsed Lung, Shut down internal organs, etc. Nasty. In any case, we were able to get him in the air for a tandem a few short months later. He plans on taking AFF with me when he returns from his next mission in a year or so. So ask your doctor. If he doesn't know, ask him to do a little research. There is also static line progression that will start you off at lower altitudes. Good luck. Welcome back! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! skygirlpc 0 #6 July 25, 2005 I don't know anything about the health issues, but when you say that you are looking for a dz in north Florida do you mean on the east coast? I jump at Emerald Coast It is about 30 min. west of Pensacola in AL. Good luck!
