Reserve dates and the WFFC

Recommended Posts

Can someone who's brighter than me help out...

I am a uk jumper who therefore follows the UK BPA reserve repack cycle. I jump US gear (Jav Od). Can someone tell me what this means for US jumping... in particular the WFFC.

When should reserve have last been packed and what date can it say it needs a repack?

thanks

Sec. 105.49 Foreign parachutists and equipment

(a) No person may conduct a parachute operation, and no pilot in command of an aircraft may allow a parachute operation to be conducted from that aircraft with an unapproved foreign parachute system unless--

(1) The parachute system is worn by a foreign parachutist who is the owner of that system.

(2) The parachute system is of a single-harness dual parachute type.

(3) The parachute system meets the civil aviation authority requirements of the foreign parachutist's country.

(4) All foreign non-approved parachutes deployed
by a foreign parachutist during a parachute operation conducted under this section shall be packed as follows--

(i) The main parachute must be packed by the foreign parachutist making the next parachute jump with that parachute, a certificated parachute rigger, or any other person acceptable to the Administrator.

(ii) The reserve parachute must be packed in accordance with the foreign parachutist's civil aviation authority requirements, by a certificated parachute rigger, or any other person acceptable to the Administrator.
________________________________________________________________

Essentially, you need to show that your are a foreign parachutist (BPA membership card), show that your rig is in date by UK BPA regulations (maybe print out/copy a page from your regulations saying what your repack cycle is), and then you merely need to follow that. So if your rig will be in date by BPA standards, then you will be fine.

I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF

Are you sure? Not to question you, but i'm almost positive that as my gear is American and TSOd it has to fall under american repack cycles when in the states?

Ding!

TSO'd gear must be packed within the FAA specified repack date to be used in the US.

The foriegn gear requirements only apply if both of these are true:

1) the jumper is foriegn.
2) the gear is foreign.

Additionally, the WFFC requires that your gear be in-date for the entire duration of the convention. If your gear expires on the last day, you'll be required to have it repacked on the first day.

ok, so to put it in complete laymans terms (ie for me...)

my reserve was last packed on 24.3.05 and is due (under the BPA regs) for a repack 23.9.05

Taking into consideration the convention... do i need a repack?

If both the rig and reserve are TSO'ed then you will need to follow the requirements for US jumpers, including a repack by a FAA rigger within 120 days unless the WFFC has a special waiver that allows you to use your own gear under the foreign regulations. So, my advice is to be packed by an FAA rigger within 120 days. For additional detail see http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/safety/detail_page.cgi?ID=96

The US reg apparently says that an FAA rigger (US licensed) must be the one to pack it, but I doubt that part would be checked. You should get the lead seal put on, if that is not required in the UK. The WFFC web site is down, so I can't confirm the wording they have to remind foreign jumpers of the requirements.

It seems like the gear itself isn't checked at boogies anymore, I remember the WFFC site saying that you'll need just the reserve card and log book. That sure opens up the possibility of people borrowing a friend's reserve card.

If others know different, please confirm.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

I'd wait until you get to the WFFC. You should have no problem getting an FFA certified rigger to pack it for you there.

Not to doubt anyone's skills, but i prefer to have my last chance packed by someone i know and trust. I have no doubt that the riggers there are absoultely more the qualified and are completely top notch, but you know, its just one of those things for me.

Hey sweetie, if i'm the "someone you know and trust list" i'll be happy to do your repack. There's room in your hotel room, so you can even watch. :)

I had mine packed by my rigger here before i left for the US last year. Both Perris and the guys at the WFFC were happy with the fact that it was in date and had been packed by a South African rigger.

Hey Zeemax,

Thanks for asking the question. I have a Jav so in the same boat as you.

We have 6months pack cycles in Oz so I'm of to see my rigger mate tomorrow.

He loves his red seals also, not that I'm a fan!!

See you at Rantoul
