PesadillaK 1 #26 July 15, 2005 There is flotation gear at Skydive El Sol, in Cabo, but it is always a good idea to bring your own. Also in case of a water landing there are plenty of jet skies and boats willing to recover the swimmer. And they are Fast! We have never had anybody landing that far off the coast anyway, but rest assured that it is not an open ocean, but a closed bay. No strong currents, not such big distances and plenty of people willing to help. I just want to stress the fact that you don't have to land close to anybody. If you don't feel comfortable land further down the beach and walk back to the meeting point. That way you wont get anything in your way. And even if you are in the middle of the bay, you really need to be too low to not get to the beach. In which case, the staff will know in advance that you are not going to make it so a Jet ski will be ready for you. If you feel more comfortable, they can steer you with hand signals from the beach in order to get you landing where you want. And remember, this is about feeling good and having fun, so relax, breathe and you'll have the best time!Full Planes and Blue Skies Always!
VanillaSkyGirl 6 #27 July 16, 2005 Thanks for writing that added part, Iwan. As you probably can tell, I wrote my post because I'm looking out for my good friend's safety. That's all. I just want to reemphasize to her that the opportunity will be there in the future. That said, if the landing situation is well within her abilities, then have fun, Ev! However, today 5 of 6 of my landings were good stand up landing right on target. I know with me skydiving is a mental thing, so think I just wanted this so much I had to make it happen. Now the only thing holding me back is floation gear. I went to Square One and said I wanted to purchase flotation gear and they looked at me like I was crazy and said "Evelyn, you jump in the desert, why would you need flotation gear?" When I explained I wanted it for Cabo they said well maybe we have some in a box somewhere and would look. I was on a call so said I'll check back later. When I came back later they said "no, we don't have any flotation gear". No problem, I'll go to plan B which is to borrow flotation gear from Jim Wallace cuz I know he has it. But when I went to his school it was locked up, everyone had left. So now I'm stuck. Won't jump without flotation gear, but won't have it to bring with me. Hopefully they will have it I can rent. Thanks to everyone for input/advice. And to all of my friends who were concerned about my safety. When I went to Square One to inquire about flotation devices the guy said "let me guess, you're Evelyn.?" I said "yeah, how did you know?" He said "well you talked about Cabo and I had someone call me to ask about your landings because you were going to jump in Cabo". It's so nice to have friends who are concerned about my safety. Thanks! But don't worry. I won't jump without perfect conditions and a flotation device! Here we do it seven days a week all year round and to land on grass would suck for us!! Have attached a pic of our last LET load from the other day overhead Caloundra Queensland Australia. Enjoy your first beach jump and dont forget the beer!! BSBD! -Mark. "A Scar is just a Tattoo with a story!!!"
 Evelyn 0 #31 August 2, 2005 QuoteI bumping this up because I want to find out how the trip was! Did you jump? How were the landings? Funny you should ask. I'm on 10 day of the 15 day cruise (right now somewhere between Costa Rica and Acapulco). After all my planning and preparation and excitment they cancelled Cabo due to "unexpected scheduling difficulties". So I carried my rig all this way with me, spent $100 on flotation gear, and now I won't get to jump in Cabo since the ship won't be stopping there now. I'm really bummed out, but I'm going to try to enjoy the rest of the trip. Going through the Panama Canal was pretty cool, but what I really was looking forward to was jumping in Cabo. Oh, and I've got bronchitis so I'm not feeling very well. So that's how it's going.
