Superman32 0 #1 August 2, 2005 I may come to the opportunity to order a brand new custom container (infinity), no canopies and no cypress for less than 1k. I'm unemployed now, so I obvioulsy don't have a s-load of money to spend. The question is, should I get the container and get the other components later (used), or should I just ignore the container and wait until I find a full rig. I do want to get into freeflying so the used rig has to be FF friendly. Ohh, one more thing, if things go right, I will have to take a hiatus from skydiving for about 2 years (going to school)next year. Thanks Inveniam Viam aut Faciam I'm back biatches! stratostar 5 #2 August 2, 2005 You don't think spending money on a rig when your out of a job and going to be on hiatus for two years to go to school kind of stupid? Spend the money on books and stuff you can use instead of a container that will sit around till you can fill it up. ($$$$$$$$$) What about when you get out of school and have a better income, will there be a better FF friendly rig on the market then for the same money or less? ~you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
tigra 0 #3 August 2, 2005 That's not a bad price for a brand new custom made FOR YOU container BUT if you are going to take a 2 year hiatus and its just going to sit with no canopies, I wouldn't bother. There will be other opportunities to buy gear at a good price when you are ready for a complete system. In the meantime, you can spend that money on jumps. mdrejhon 8 #4 August 3, 2005 Invest in the money instead. Then you can buy a better rig when you're back into skydiving!
sundevil777 102 #5 August 3, 2005 Baloney! You want it and you're going to get it, and you'll get all the other parts of your gear too. Help me, I can't stop spending money, I don't care if I should be concentrating on my studies, I need it to relax after a stressful week, ya that's it, going into debt will actually be better for my scholastic success! Stop trying to deny your addiction.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. Superman32 0 #6 August 3, 2005 Maybe greater clarification is in order. Hopefully, I'll be starting medical school next year, which will put me in REAL serious debt. While the entire school process is very intense and time consuming, I've been told by several students and docs that the first 2 years doing primarily book work, studying for boards and getting used to a new hectic life is specially challenging, and for that reason I don't forsee myself jumping nearly enough to maintain currency, hence the hiatus. The following years, while still busy, you can more easily fit in personal time, at least until residency. As for the unemployment, I will hopefully be starting a new job soon. My thought is that if I have the opportunity to get something that is made to fit me might be a better choice then finding an older rig down the road. It may also help with the rental cost. I haven't made any decisions yet. I might not buy anything at all. Just not sure if the cost of setting up rig by pieces may turn out to be more expensive. Inveniam Viam aut Faciam I'm back biatches! sundevil777 102 #7 August 3, 2005 Get it, Get it, you know you want it... The container sounds like a tremendous deal if it fits right and holds the right canopies. You'll be jumping in a few months.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. peregrinerose 0 #8 August 3, 2005 I did the optometry school thing, and regret every extra penny that I spent, even those things that were pretty much necessary (food). I have no undergrad debt, borrowed only enough for tuition and worked my ass off to pay living expenses on top of education. I graduated $126K in debt which is actually much less than most of my classmates. Trying to pay it off in 10 years has me paying $26000/ year. This leaves no extra money for jumping, even working 6-7 days a week, so I started packing at the DZ in order to pay for it. I'm not saying don't buy the container, just consider what the interest alone on that extra $1000 will cost you in terms of student loan debt... probably and extra $1000 over 10+ years. Is it really worth it? Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
blewaway5 0 #9 August 3, 2005 Simple little thing to keep in mind, you think your gonna have the same measurements in two years? Med school=stress=late night junk food Food for thought. Truman Sparks for President

Brains 2 #11 August 3, 2005 Dude, i dated a girl who was going to med school (2nd year) and she didn't have time to do shit! I had plenty of time to jump though Listen to the others, you are getting ready to go into serious debt with school loans because you aren't going to be able to work and go to med school at the same time. Save the money, rig deals will always be around. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.
tigra 0 #12 August 3, 2005 That's the bottm line right there- rig deals will always be around. There is nothing wrong with piecing together a rig, but buying a brand new container to sit in a closet without canopies for two years? That's got to be a crime against the sport of skydiving! The deals will be there when you are ready to take advantage.
JohnMitchell 16 #13 August 3, 2005 You should know a few people who would love that deal you've got. How about selling a rig to them, and pocket a couple hundred bucks profit? If you're a broke, going to school skydiver, I would stick with used gear until you're graduated and rich. Is this a coupon or money off offer from VSE?
