skyflychris 0 #1 August 4, 2005 Being new to the sport I was pondering my upcoming helmet purchase. I have been jumping my DZ's open face helmet and like the wind on my face. But recently I have seen an experienced jumper with an open face helmet take a hard face landing and get knocked out. Does anyone with experience have any thoughts on open face vs. full face in regards to pros and cons or experience level ?Ordinary's..... just not good enough today. nael 0 #2 August 5, 2005 This has been discussed many times on the forums, do a search and see what turns up. www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

nael 0 #4 August 5, 2005 That's what the forum is for, but if we can save HH some bandwidth by doing a search first, that's even better! www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

white_falcon 0 #6 August 5, 2005 Aww, c'mon guys. geesh, the guy asked a question, help him out. As far as discussing things that already been discussed, this sounds much more interesting than, um, "What dog-food does your dog prefer" or other such drivel as I have seen on here. Now, I personally dont mind those discussions either, as this forum is supposed to be a little entertaining as well as INFORMATIVE but if band width is the issue, well, lets just dont anyone post anything else, as I believe most everything has already been discussed. Geesh, give a poor guy a break Oh, and BTW, I WOULD answer the question, but as I am a relatively new jumper, my input as regards the question asked would be meaningless, but I did open this post expecting to see some MEANINGFUL and USEFUL information. Thats my $.02, but maybe I shouldnt waste the band width, as I am sure this has all been posted before. Scott (not the re-post police)
skyflychris 0 #7 August 5, 2005 Thanks man, now I know about the search function and the bandwith police. I sure am glad my instructors weren't like that, and I know that when I gain some more experience I will help those who don't. Ordinary's..... just not good enough today. You're glad your instructors didn't direct you to the wealth of resources available to you? Wierd.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. bch7773 0 #9 August 6, 2005 the truth is, nobody wants to spend the time and effort explaining something thats already been explained a dozen times. especially when accessing that new information is easy and takes 10 seconds in a search. heres a couple to get you started http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=162816;search_string=full%20face%20open;#162816 http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1575152;search_string=full%20face%20open;#1575152 MB 3528, RB 1182

RichardR 0 #11 August 7, 2005 You deserve an answer to your question. I used to use an open face helmet, but got elbowed in the nose once, which resulted it blood splattering all over my goggles. Now I use a full face unless I'm doing a two way, a hop-and-pop, or a solo. If one lands hard enough to get knocked unconscious, I'm not sure that either type of helmet is better. The full-face might keep one from breaking their jaw, but who knows? Landing hard enough to worry about a head injury is a bad thing, and should be avoided. Personnaly, I feel that the primary purpose of a helmet is to keep me conscious in free fall, so that I can pull, or execute emergency procedures. Secondary is to avoid a broken jaw, nose, or teath, which full face protection will help with.Richard Rothery

We weren't rude about it, we simply pointed you in the right direction to get the answers you wanted. Like someone else said - the truth is, people dont want to answer something that has been asked and answered a million times on the forums before because we are too lazy to type it out again (I remember a thread about this just last week).www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store
