Zach 0 #1 April 26, 2004 If you're are the last one down, there is no wind, and you're not going to smack into anyone gathering their parachute, what are the dangers with landing parallel to everyone else's base leg? This question is asked with the understanding of the importance and with the understanding of the reasons why the left-hand box pattern is used. Thanks for taking the time. Thanks for taking the time. It's the same reason everyone drives on the same side of the street. If everyone is going in the same direction, it reduces the chances of an incident. While it's true that you can get away with flying an alternate pattern, it can create problems. Also, it's downright rude when other pilots have no idea where you are going. That being said, if I go on a hop and pop and there is absolutely NO OTHER TRAFFIC, I am safe to fly wherever I want and land in any direction I want.Play stupid games, win stupid prizes! The danger is that you don't see the one higher canopy that's landing behind you. "Knowing" that I was the last one down, I'm pissed at myself now for not having expected the unexpected. Guess it's the one that allways kicks your ass huh. Appreciate it Bill. Your flight pattern might confuse a low time jumper waiting for the next load who might then fly the landing your way and cause a problem.Tom Buchanan Instructor Emeritus Comm Pilot MSEL,G Author: JUMP!
