Special Demo Jump - how to arrange

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone !

I am an inactive A-licensed jumper. First jump in 1974 from a Huey; most recent jump in 1995-ish.

I am interested in doing a special jump on my 50th birthday, on an island in Long Island Sound. I don't have time to get a D license or Pro rating. Any ideas out there?

Joe

You haven't jumped in ten years and you want to do a demo jump onto an island. And you don't have time to train for it. Is that about right?

I don't think you will have much luck. The right way to do it is:

1. get your PRO rating
2. do a few local demos to get to know the local demo teams
3. start the demo process, which involves at minimum a NOTAM, landowner permission (in writing) and likely insurance. Requirements vary from place to place.
4. rent an aircraft from a place like SDLI for the jump itself. Note that you must find an airport within 50 miles of the target; Calverton will probably work for that.
5. do a site inspection
6. get a ground crew with radios, smoke and streamers
7. make the jump
