PIA Business Meeting in Chicago

Recommended Posts

The second PIA business meeting (NOT A SYMPOSIUM) is this weekend in the Chicago area (out near O'Hare). Everyone is welcome to come and set in on the various committee meetings, member or not. The location and schedule is on www.pia.com

This is where new testing standards are discussed, symposium plans are made, material specifications are written, etc. These are business meetings, sometimes kind of dry, but important to many in the industry. Skydivers may not have a lot of interest, but riggers should be more interested, especially in the technical and rigging committees.

I walked in as an independent part time rigger back at the 1989 riggers conference and first PIA symposium in 1991. Sat in on the business meetings out of interest and have gotten more involved ever since. Several of us hope to make membership for individual riggers more affordable.

And if you'd like to join now, submit an application. See the website. Don't worry about the current member sponsors needed. We often volunteer to sponsor companies at the last minute, and I'd be glad to sponsor any individual riggers who wanted to join.

While it may be intimidating to walk into the meeting with Bill Booth, George Galloway, Bill Coe, Ted Strong, Lowell Bachman (Paragear), etc, etc, remember they're just skydivers. ;)

If you'd like more information on what to expect or what to show up for email or PM me. I'll be off line shortly to drive over.
