Mile-Hi Otter to be flight tested

Recommended Posts

I was asked to post this message to inform everyone that Mile-Hi Skydiving's Otter is to be flight tested this coming weekend. This is San Marcos's old Otter, but I think it's safe to say that this is virtually a new airplane. It was torn apart into little pieces and has been rebuilt complete with reconditioned engines and will take to the air this weekend. So hopefully it will be carrying skydivers in the not too distant future.

Attached are a couple of pictures of this bird, but please keep in mind that these pictures are a few weeks old.

Dude,

They sure are getting quite a bit of work done out there at Mile Hi. It seems as if some major projects are just coming together all at once. I was over looking at the plane a couple of weeks back, and it looked to be a rather extensive rebuild process. Those A&P's have jobbed out if they are getting ready for an FCF (Functional Check Flight).

Actually, the colors are not the same. The teal stripes have been replaced with Yellow stripes. The photos Steve posted are 2 years old when it 1st arrived here.

I'll have to leave that question to be answered by a knowledgeable Mile-Hi employee. I was just asked to post this message since I'm one of the DZ's bigger DZ.COM post whores. But I can tell that that the DZ will be rocking with their new Otter and new swoop pond (keep in mind that we do jump all 12 months of the year in CO with tons of sunshine). The only thing that is missing is the new hangers, but we can't have it all at once can we?

Just wait young grasshopper...there is more than just new hangers in your future...

Unless I find my way back into corporate America very soon, my future after Oct 16th will be to be with all my other Ice Back brothers and sisters up in Canada when the INS shows me the door. But that's okay. I knew the rules before I started playing the game.

The new swoop pond rocks!!! Plus an Otter, King Air and Cessna are always nice to have lying around for when you need one of them. Plus the jumping WX in CO is better than most people know. For whatever reason people seem to think that CO is cold when in reality it's not. I've been jumping at the DZ on a Jan/Feb weekend wearing shorts and a t-shirt on the ground on some weekends.

Dude, your first pictures posted scared me... I thought you went back in time because those are not the Otter we know and love.

I got to the DZ late Sunday evening to do a jump. Ended up on a last-minute 3 way. In the loading area I saw out of the corner of my eye an Otter making a lot of noise going down the taxiway... At first, I thought, "I did not know the rental Otter was still here..." But then, I realized it was not a rental. It was missing a engine cowling or two, but it was a beautiful site.

I have not helped at all on this Otter, but I have seen some of my DZ friends helping in the cleanup and non-mechanic type stuff... I thus have been in it a few times in the last year.

The first time I saw it, it had no wires, no wings, no engines, and nothing else. Then, slowly things started going back in, one by one, all seemingly brand new... I made the mistake of commenting that the wheel struts looked like they had a paint job, but I was corrected - they are brand new too.

Rumor has it that this Otter, thanks to all new stuff, will be the lightest and, thus, fastest Otter in the world. Not your grandfather's otter.:S

I am proud to jump at Mile High!

At first I said, "I don't want to be on the first load" knowing every single bolt was removed... But, now I have changed my mind and hope Frank invites me to be on the first load.

I don't understand this picture. There are supposed to be two rows of three things with big fins right
behind the spinny thing. Is that part off to the right of the picture?

Looks like it's not quite housebroken yet.

It is near the dit-wat, under the thing, covered by the flat thing, to the left of the red thing.:$

But seriously, what are you talking about????

This is good news. I'm glad to hear that things are falling into place for Frank and the staff at Mile-Hi.

Oh really? What all is planned? I moved away from Colorado about 9 months ago but will be moving back hopefully sooner than later. I miss Mile-Hi and Colorado. I'll take a good-ole snow storm anytime compared to the stuff I went through down here this week. Look forward to getting back to Mile-Hi. Take care. I almost forgot I'll be flying in the weekend of the 9, 10, 11 of Sept. If your around Steve maybe we can go thrash the sky a bit.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

I was in a meeting last Thursday when Katrina was still just a small thought at a Cat1 and we were discussing being in Houma this week. I've been through a hurricane before (Cat3) but this would have been a bit more interesting. I'll stay at my 2 miles up for a few more days.
