HardCorr 0 #1 August 31, 2005 So, What's the stupidest thing you've ever done during you're skydiving career? I think I accomplished that one this past weekend. Had a guy track away right on top of me so I ended up pulling at 1900 feet cause I had to turn and track in a different direction. Better planning on the ground would have changed that a lot. Plan ahead and don't let yourself get into a dangerous situation. Please don't ever repeat my mistake! Thankfull it opened! The key to being a good teacher, is to be a good listener... HardCorr 0 #4 August 31, 2005 The first time I lost altitude awareness was back when I pulled typically at around 4 grand. I didn't even realize I was approaching 3000 until I looked down and I could start spotting the power lines and license plates on cars. Luckily I hadn't panicked and I pulled with plenty of time. Kinda scary even though 3,000 still gives you plenty of time. The key to being a good teacher, is to be a good listener...

labrys 0 #8 August 31, 2005 I jumped in a bad state of mind under lots of external stress. Lost altitude awareness at breakoff, then took a few seconds to wonder why one of the other jumpers in my group was flying in my face pointing at me before I registed the pull signal. That was a bad day.Owned by Remi #?
wmw999 2,552 #9 August 31, 2005 This thread is full of silly things people have done (and some very normal pull altitudes as well). The pointed-to post is, hands down, my, um, favorite... Elisha 1 #10 August 31, 2005 Wow. I don't think anyone here is going to beat that. Stupidest/most dangerious: probably the time I tracked back toward the flight path and virtually over another jumper who was opening up. That was a little sketchy. Trae 1 #11 August 31, 2005 Stupidest thing? Probably hook-turning into a car. 10 foot tall and bullet proof ..just had no idea (at the time ) that I could actually phuck up and hit something. The car came off worse than me Results of experiment Car -footprints in roof with tread Idiot (me) - deflated ego Spectators --loud beer fueled cheering Owner of (stolen?) car -- muted anger End result ----------- learnt not to try and land between parked vehichles out of a hook-turn. Only did this once.
 outlawphx 1 #12 August 31, 2005 Humming it down turning points on a two way after an eight way break off. I caught a glipse of the ground as we broke off and it was BIG! I pulled immediately somewhere around 800 ft. In the saddle for about a 15 second canopy ride. My old instructor happened to be watching the load on the ground and he turned away thinking we we're going to bounce. Okay, no problem, I guess, but we were circling around 2500ft (should have been 3500ft). I found this out afterwards (at that time students simply counted their delays and didn't carry alimeters). I did the full delay and distinctly remember feeling that I was below the vertical height of the trees. By the time the snivelley AirCon was open I had about 10 seconds of drifting down before a thumping PLF. Still, I shouldn't complain. The CCI was more than a little embarrassed (the instructor wouldn't even fill in my log book) and put me, I'm sure as a way of apology, immediately on 15-second delays next.
