popsjumper 2 #1 September 8, 2005 Whaddyathink? How about organizing an Instuctor/S&TA Appreciation Day at your DZ? I know that at our DZ our instructors and S&TAs work their butts off and rarely get time to play. Besides doing their normal revenue-generating work, they are also more than willing to help, advise, train and guide others in skydiving techniques, safety and general knowledge both on a pay-as-you-go basis and most often for free. It seems a pity that they are sometimes not appreciated as much as they deserve. How about doing something for them to show your appreciation? 1. Case/fifth of their favorite beverage 2. Nice framable Certificate of Appreciation 3. Wall Plaque 4. Fun-jump tickets 5. Handshake and a few words. 6. Cream Pie? 7. Kick in the butt. 8. Something...anything at all.My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. JohnMitchell 16 #4 September 8, 2005 Nobody underappreciates instructors more than the USPA. Does any other sport charge its instructors an extra fee every year just to rubber stamp the rating one more time? I figure that's the thanks I get for making all those new members out of whuffos. I think the DZ's I work at appreciate me okay already. They give me money, thanks, and beer.

Try joining the Professional Ski Instructors of America or American Association of Snowboard Instructors, a requirement to teach at many resorts. It'll cost you close to 90 USD per year, and give you an opportunity to pay even more for officially sanctioned and MANDATORY recurrent training every two years. Your USPA ratings only cost 20.00 per year no matter how many you have, and there is no additional charge for annual training. It aint a bad deal! .Tom Buchanan Instructor Emeritus Comm Pilot MSEL,G Author: JUMP! Skydiving Made Fun and Easy
Hooknswoop 19 #6 September 8, 2005 Quotethere is no additional charge for annual training. LOL- you mean: there is no additional annual training. Instructors are not paid what they are worth because there are so many of them (USPA lowered the standards to be an AFFI), and so many of them don't depend on the income, so a little pay is great by them.
