NWFlyer 2 #26 September 15, 2005 QuoteGet the "B". It will "force" you into some training and paying attention to requirements. It will also open some doors for you vis-a-vis jumping opportunities. She still has to complete all the B requirements to get her C, so regardless of which license she decides to actually apply for, she'll have to do the B requirements. I have not found that not having an actual B license has limited my jumping opportunities. Obviously, that would be different had I had the opportunity to do night jumps or beach jumps. I say get it if there is something in your jumping goals (coach rating, beach jumps, night jumps) that you want to be able to do before you can meet the C requirements. Otherwise, wait."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. JENNR8R 0 #27 September 15, 2005 QuoteQuoteI'm damned sure getting mine, I wanna do night jumps! Don't you only need to be "B-qualified" for night jumps? That's how I did them. It's up to the S&TA at my DZ to determine if you are 'B' qualified or not. If you applied for the license, you wouldn't have to worry about it.
mattjw916 2 #28 September 15, 2005 Hmmm... Well since so many non-"tourist" jumpers say it's a good idea, maybe I will send in my C license app so I can get an official number. I had just planned to leave it with my logbook if anyone cared to see it.NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
jumpjunkie2004 0 #29 September 15, 2005 I'd get the B! Although, I have heard that you don't have to have it to do night jumps - you just have to be" B license qualified". My impression of being "B license qualified" is that you meet all the criteria for a B license, but you haven't paid for the number. When I get there, I'll be getting mine. Since I have a limited amount of jumping time, it's going to take me forever to get from 50 to 200.Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...
kelpdiver 2 #30 September 15, 2005 Quote You just have to take the tests. Now you don't even have to send off for an "A" unless you want the number. The card if stamped is as good as a license. That's what I did, though it's somewhat of a pain going to a new DZ (or 5) with the stamped A card instead of a simple number. Saved my $20 there because I presumed I'd get the B within a couple months. Ended up being substantially longer with winter and the rig order. Steph - the B lets me land in the primary landing zone at two DZs, and night dive, though as many have said, often just being qualified is sufficient. I'm less sure why to bother with the C number, other than it will be a few years longer before I would get to 500. Doesn't confer any benefits I see of use as yet. That's a good point ... sometimes a license will allow you do to something at a particular DZ. I'm getting my C because it'll allow me to land at the airport at my home DZ and avoid a van ride (unless I'm jumping with newer jumpers)."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. StephZ 0 #32 September 15, 2005 Wow And as many of you have said, it will take me far longer to reach 200 jumps from this point(esp. with weather in the northwest!). I don't want to limit my jumping opportunities in anyway between now and then lol, I'm 18, enough said- I wanna do it all Again, many thanks to all of you, this has been extreamly helpful * I am not afraid . . . I was born to do this -Joan of Arc- But what do I know, I'm only
Elisha 1 #33 September 15, 2005 OK guys, I know I can just go read the SIM (and yes, I'll get around to actually printing the 'B' sections and reading them sometime soon), but how do you record the things like "10 landings within 10 meters (or 30 or whatever it is) of target" and "do two 360's, two back loops, blah blah". If it is only 50 jumps for a 'B' and Water training as well, I have those two covered already.
kelpdiver 2 #34 September 15, 2005 the signatures in your logbook entries validate the 10m accuracy landings. Essentially honor system there. I think you'd need a coach/instructor to sign off the freefall skills. It was easier just to do 10 RW jumps, again with the usual jumper sig.
NWFlyer 2 #35 September 15, 2005 QuoteIt was easier just to do 10 RW jumps, again with the usual jumper sig. Not to mention that the B license requirement is pretty darn vague: "successful completion of the planned formation(s) on ten group freefall jumps." Two way: "hey let's do a diving exit and chase each other around the sky a while." Easy to stick to that plan. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Hmmm...maybe I should just spend a few minutes to back through my log book over the past 10 or so jumps, add some more detail (I'm not that detailed), and actually sign it since I do have an 'A' License....and then I'm already 'B' qualified! I think I required a min of 1 pt, so I filtered out a couple that went exactly as you described. Did count the speed stars that got to 7 or 8 people each. Yeah, night jump requirements are "B-qualified" not B licensed. Outside of some rare boogie requirements, a B doesn't really let you do anything you can't do with an A.
