somethinelse 0 #1 October 20, 2005 Anybody know about this kinda thing???? I knew I hurt myself at work last friday, but after I couldn't "stretch" out the pain and stiffness over the weekend, I went to my Dr's. Dr. office told me, I detached rib heads on my spine. At least 3 on one side 2 on the other. I got "adjusted" a bit, But I AM gonna follow up with my chiroprator on Friday. I'm gonna be taking a muscle relaxer tonight and taking it easy at work for a few days... I wanna make a jump this weekend...Should everything be okay? What should I ask my chiroprator about this? Thanx ya'all. Gotta go, but will check responses tomorrow. Blues! -LiLa.

AggieDave 6 #3 October 20, 2005 I've done this a couple times over the past few years. It sucks huh? Usually when it happens, a good adjustment from a good chiropractor puts everything right with the world, although there usually are some muscle tears that linger for a couple of weeks. After a good adjustment I've found that just Advil (or similar) does good for me and it just takes some time for the tenderness to go away (but the real pain goes away after the adjustment). Just 4 weeks ago I had 3 popped out on my left side due to a slight training/PT mishap I had. No big deal, took care of it and went on with life.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
BirdWoman 0 #4 October 20, 2005 I've had a couple of dislocated ribs on my upper chest (the heads were dislocated on the sternal attachment). Yes, chiropractic adjustments are good but you should also think about following that up with a good massage therapist. Most of the time what happens is the muscle gets so used to trying to pull the ribs back into place (or holding them in general in your case), once the ribs go back to their normal location the muscle will spasm and not know what to do (so to speak). Once they "heal", you can expect them to kinda "dislocate" on their own every now and then, even if you just sit wrong or bend kinda funny. Just follow the same treatment when that happens. After a while (maybe a year or two), things will finally settle down and you'll probably forget that this ever happened. Hang in there...it can be painful "I don't know where it is that I'm going, but wherever it is there I'll be!" --quoted by me
somethinelse 0 #5 October 20, 2005 Yah, it hurts, put not REALLY bad. The PA asked me HOW MUCH PAIN I was in, and he gave me the weirdest smile when I told him, Oh it does HURT, but that was kinda relative... I seem to be dealing with some level of pain ALL THE TIME. Due to old injuries, accident and the lingering results, ya know? GOOD TIP: He told me, when this happens again(!), sometimes laying on back with a tennis ball underneath me, lifting up neck and headwhile I do this, roll the ball around beneath me, this could help to "pop" them back into place. mnealtx 0 #7 October 20, 2005 I was seeing a chiro that would use ultrasound and electrostimulation to relax the muscles, then use his fingertips for pressure and get a vertebra to release.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706
