Staso 0 #1 May 17, 2004 hey. just wanna share what a jackass i was today. not really a jackass, but i could've avoided it. jump N 679. 5 grand, some proximity canopy flying with my friend, set up for 90 hook, hooked up high, overshot landing zone a tad (turned out i was going slightly downwind and we land predefined direction), stepped down too hard and too fast on some hard surface. ankle swelled twice it's size in seconds. after 30 mins in the ice, went to ER. they took a lot of x-rays and it turned i didn't break anything (i guess drinking milk and going to gym paid off), but soft tissues took all the force. going to orthopedist tomorrow to check if i tore any ligaments. ER Doc said it was most likely. suck big time ... no jumping for a month i guess. fly your wing people, all the way to the ground ! Stan. canopy - icarus crossfire2, 139. wing load - 1.45-1.5. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... bodypilot1 0 #2 May 17, 2004 Sorry to hear that. Sometimes tissue damage and sprains take longer to heal then a brake and are more likely to happen again if you do to not wait long enough for it to heal all the way. Even a month may be too soon unfortunalty. Be safe. -www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com
Amazon 7 #3 May 17, 2004 Sorry to hear that Stan... Now be a good patient to your Dr's and do as they say.. and heal up.. we have some jumping to do in August
 skymama 37 #4 May 17, 2004 I popped 2 ligaments in my ankle 2 months ago, and it is still swollen and tight. See a physical therapist as soon as possible. My orthopedist screwed me up by waiting 3 weeks before telling me I should go. It's taking longer to heal because of the delay. I'm having a hell of a time getting flexibility back into my ankle and now I'm going to PT 3 times a week. Good luck in your healing process! She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
 Staso 0 #5 May 17, 2004 it's all nice and black now :) i did't get to the orthopedist yet, but going today. suprisingly it doesn't hurt at all unless i'm trying to "walk". but it looks pretty scary. we'll see what doc says. it blows ... stan. thanks for the good wishes everyone. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... I was doing that too until it started killing my lower back from hopping around so much. Be careful and don't forget to ice it a lot. Here's another hint...to get around the kitchen and cook, I put a rolling desk chair in there and I would kneel on it with my bad leg and roll around. Compression wrap it. One Ace bandage and a long strip of non stretchy stuff to squish all the blood out. Keep it up in the air. Ice, heat after a few days, massage, compression. you know that R.I.C.E. Thing.. rest ice compression elevate? Buy one of These Don't allow your foot to roll again. Sprains suck. take your time strengthening it but definately rehab it when it's ready. The brace works well. I'm not quite ready to go full active with out one, but with it I'm pretty bold.My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry...
