Beverly 1 #1 November 1, 2005 This was mailed to us yesterday! Hi all PASA would like to congratulate Old Man John who did his JOE (Jumpers over Eighty) jump yesterday. OMJ celebrated his 80th birthday on 9 October but bad weather and other problems have prevented him from doing this jump until now. For those who don't know, Old Man John started skydiving at the tender age of 65 when he did the AFF course with Jeff Ayliff and Andy Searle at PPC. He has done over 800 jumps since then. His 800th was done in the USA recently with, among others, Solly Williams and Graham Harding. Old Man John has been the driving behind getting a POPS (Parachutists over Phorty Society) established in South Africa (more on this soon). A copy of a media release distributed today has been posted to "news and reports" on the website at www.para.co.za Three cheers for Old Man John!!! Thank you. http://www.para.co.za/docs/PASA%20Media%20Release%201%20November%202005.htm First graf: Quote On Monday afternoon, 31 October 2005, while many of us were working or relaxing or battling those Monday blues, John Browett was doing what he loves best – donning his jumpsuit, checking his equipment and preparing to board an aircraft which would take him to 10,000 ft above the ground from where he would jump out and skydive with friends before deploying his parachute and landing safely back on terra firma. This in itself is not unusual but, what makes this story so special is that John Browett or “Old Man John” as he is fondly known in the skydiving fraternity, celebrated his 80th birthday on 9 October 2005. wildchild 0 #6 November 3, 2005 Don't think OMJ posts here, but he's pretty proficient on the email, so I'll mail him and try and twist his arm to come and join us here! He really is amazing, and it's been my privilege to do several skydives with him. He's also a real gentleman, and can teach guys half his age about charming women!____________________________ "If there is doubt, there is no doubt." - Tonto
