chaoskitty 0 #3 July 2, 2005 QuoteI was just wondering, why is base jumping more dangerous than skydiving? Who said it was? They're different sports, but if you were to compare them, I'd say that the margin for error and recovery is a lot less in BASE.
shropshire 0 #4 July 2, 2005 Seems like a couple of thinks, to me.... (1)Proximity to the ground when deploying (2)Proximity to other objects when in freefall (and under canopy) (3) Often tight landing area (4) Time...... not much of it after you 'exit' But as the other poster said.... thry the BASE forum too. Hooknswoop 19 #5 July 2, 2005 (5) No reserve (6) Often at night (7) Etc. Derek
shropshire 0 #6 July 2, 2005 Yeap them too.. But there's some good bits, I'd think.. (1) No queue at manefest (2) No waiting for all the Tandem loads before you get chance to jump (3) No reserve repack every 6 months(UK)/120 days(US) - (4) etc (.)Y(.) BASE813 0 #7 July 2, 2005 Quote(3) No reserve repack every 6 months(UK)/120 days(US) well a reserve repack after every jump! we just do it ourselves........... (I have always said to people who say "you dont jump with a reserve" that we do jump with a reserve we just dont jump with a main.....
chaoskitty 0 #8 July 2, 2005 Yah but in skydiving you dont have to climb for 2 hours, for a 5 second delay!

slotperfect 7 #10 July 3, 2005 The scholarly BASE aficionado Tom Aiello (Moderator of the BASE Forum) wrote this great article which should be a great place for you to start! That is NOT a dumb question, BTW. Arrive Safely John

billvon 3,114 #13 July 4, 2005 >Not the ones I know. Well, I have about 4500 skydives, and one skydive put me in a wheelchair for a few months. I have 23 BASE jumps and one put me on crutches for a week. Statistically that probably says BASE jumping is a lot more dangerous, but YMMV.
Joellercoaster 6 #14 July 4, 2005 You know pBASEtobe, then? -- "I'll tell you how all skydivers are judged, . They are judged by the laws of physics." - kkeenan "You jump out, pull the string and either live or die. What's there to be good at?

MB38 0 #16 July 6, 2005 The Sorcerer BASE reserve system [deploys in less than 150'] is often described as having "two reserves"... the first one and the second one. Gotta love it.I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Just most. not all, but one evening I was in a pub with about 8 friends (all BASE'rs) and one guy who had decided to give up was talking to me, I said his reasons were understandable, and took a moment to look around, I then turned to him and said if you think about it all of us here this evening have metal work in our legs apart from you.............. and yes, I do limp..............
