killa_k 0 #1 November 29, 2005 I am kinda new to this sport and I love it, but there is just one slight problem... There is a serious lack of females in the sport. My best friend and I go to Cleveland Parachute Center and she gets hit on by every dude in the house. Now this could be because she is hot but it actually is because there is not enough girls to go around. I think that we should all host a bring a girl to the DZ day and make the after parties a little more interesting. Tell me what you think or your experiences with the subject. JohnMitchell 16 #9 November 29, 2005 Is this your friend or your GF? Does she mind getting hit on? (Some women like the attention, as long as it's not rude.) Are the guys cool or real asses about it? These are my questions to assess the situation. Some DZ's have a stronger female presence than others, and she would probably be more comfortable there. You dont lose your girlfriend, you lose your turn, etc. etc. Presents a mild challenge for the women to prove themselves as "skydivers" and not just "a hot chick at the dz". On the other hand, there are a LOT of girls who show up at the DZ, dont really jump much, but love the attention. Makes it really easy to establish the different betewen "skydivers" and "hot chicks at the dz". And the guys who want those girls can have them. I'll be up on a load. davelepka 4 #12 November 29, 2005 When I first started jumping, I made the mistake of brining my girlfriend to the DZ. She waited on the picnic table while I went up for a jump. Upon landing, I noticed a small crowd surrounding the picinc table. More or less every able-bodied male not on the last load was there, taking a shot. Even though this was at the same DZ you're talking about, it's really no different anywhere else. Skydiving is hard and dirty and expensive and scary, so you're not going to have a huge amount of women involved. On top of that you have a pack of type-A males, all hopped up on adreniline and testosterone, who spend too much time at the DZ to meet girls elsewhere. Perris has closer to 25-30% females (just a guess) and some DZ's have close to 50/50 (or at least they did about ten years back when we did the big DZ tour.) Or you could just show up at Perris during JFTC, and 90% of the jumpers will be women! But generally you'll find more men than women at any given DZ. It doesn't have to be a problem; just make it clear that you're there to jump and not get hit on. On the other hand, if you _are_ looking for a guy, the odds work for you. Oh, it would cost me more than double because she'd be too good to pack for herself, too. So either I'd pack twice per jump or I'd pay a packer. Wanting there to be women where you are is just TS. Be a guy, suck it up, realize often the women are somewhere else doing something smarter than watching sports, telling lies, and hurling themselves at the earth. Now, it's not that I'm bitter.
