Vincent99 0 #1 December 5, 2005 Gooday My partner and I are eloping to New Zealand. One of the things we are planning to do there was tandem skydiving. We have no experience with skydiving. As there will be only two of us, we are thinking of making the wedding more memorable by incorporating taking the plunge out of a plane. A friend of mine has made the following interesting comment. I'm wondering how accurate the follwing comment is? "I have through my many overseas trips discussed with many acqaintances the prospect of getting my pilot's licence to fly ultra lite aircraft equipped with parachutes. Through my research, I have discovered that a very very very large percentage of first time sky divers ended up discharging %$^&* and embarrassed themselves afterward. Btw, this is quite normal and very accepted in the sky diving profession - I just don't reckon that it would be a good thing on your big meaningful day"
IanHarrop 42 #2 December 5, 2005 VERY FEW first time skydivers discharge anything. Someone is pulling your leg. "Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
Dougiefresh 0 #3 December 5, 2005 LOL. Whuffos are so funny sometimes. So what was this guys research? Talking to someone in a bar?Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams
Vincent99 0 #4 December 5, 2005 I know that something like 1% may puke or faint, but thats all the info I could find on the net.
billvon 3,114 #5 December 5, 2005 In doing tandems, I've never had anyone poop or pee. I had one woman pass out (or nearly so) due to harness fit. Overall in our program we had a few people pass out, a few pukers (one in the air, the rest on the ground) and a few people who really, really didn't like it. But all those together make up about 1% of the people who have done tandems with us.
ccowden 0 #6 December 5, 2005 I am a tandem instructor with about 700 tandem jumps and that is one of the most inaccurate and stupid things I have ever heard about tandem jumping. Incorporating a tandem skydive into your special day would be awesome!
DJL 235 #7 December 5, 2005 Quotevery accepted in the sky diving profession Sometimes when I haven't jumped in a while I poop myself just to remember what it's like. Well really, I don't know about pooping yourself but I've suspect a few skydivers of sharting themselves on the ride up. I still wouldn't call this acceptible practice."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

That's not quite true, I was on the front end of one of your recurrency jumps and I'm pretty sure I pooped myself Pete Draper, Just because my life plan is written on the back of a Hooter's Napkin, it's still a life plan.... right? pjchis 0 #9 December 6, 2005 Ugh, whuffos are crazy! Look, definitely take the plunge, you'll love it. It can happen but it's rare. Check out Taupo Tandem Skydiving (TTS), here is their website: http://www.skydive.net.nz/ Watch out for Liam, he's ALWAYS on the beer board for something unlucky, and if you are jumping with Freddy... well.... just breathe deeply. And make sure you tell Yuko and the office girls I said hello!
