balloon jumps?

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I'm up in Calgary, Canada, and a bunch of us are wanting to do some jumps from a hot air balloon. Has anyone done this? Especially in Canada, I would be interested in finding out how hard it is to find someone to take us up etc... Anyone have any thoughts?
God made firefighters so paramedics would have heroes...and someone can put out the trailer fires.

I highly recommend this thread, and these posts in it in particular:

Alan and Alan again and Tom Aiello's thoughts on balloon exits.

And this post and to a lessor extent, thread seems reasonable. (I see no need to turn off the Cypres if the landing area is/will be the same place/altitude you take off from.)

Somone said don't let the balloon pilot cheat you on the altitude. And, it seems reasonable to me to think of a balloon jump as a demo, without them actually being demos. (Off-DZ landing; someone else's property? Canopy skills/need to land in a smaller place? Any fences/powerlines/ turblence-causing obstacles? What are the normal things taken care of by a DZ that you'll need to do on your own? Got some ground crew? )

But most importantly - they sound freaking awesome! Gonna have to do one of those myself sometime! ;)

You can have it good, fast, or cheap: pick two.

Absolutely correct! 3 out of 4 of my balloon jumps resulted in landing in or near the peas. The other one, (the first one), resulted in landing miles away in a town. So think of it as a demo where you have no idea where you will be landing until shortly before exit.
