ChangoLanzao 0 #1 December 29, 2005 Everyone's OK Lost power at 500 ft on takeoff with four jumpers on board. Landed "safely" next to a construction site. Nose down. The news choppers just starting swarming in The plane is sitting nose-down in some sand, engine's busted off. Whew! Other than that ... things are going great down here...the weather is beautiful... quade 4 #2 December 29, 2005 Kudos to the pilot. That is the absolute worst time to lose power. Glad to read that everyone got out without injury.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
ntacfreefly 0 #3 December 29, 2005 Glad everyone is ok. This is one aspect of the sport that really scares me.To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders. ~ Lao-Tzu It's all good, they're my brothers ~ Mariann Kramer
Reginald 0 #4 December 29, 2005 QuoteThis is one aspect of the sport that really scares me. Me too. A wise man once told me that we all have two chances to die on every skydive. The first is on takeoff; we trust our lives to the pilots and maintenance staff here. The second chance to die on a skydive is more obvious. I’ve changed my behavior in skydiving. I make sure I jump where I am comfortable with the planes and the pilots. You can’t always tell if everything is okay and s*** just happens sometimes but if I have doubts I trust me doubts. I don’t need to get on a plane at a bandit DZ with marginally qualified pilots and planes held together with gaffers tape. At my home DZ, I know the maintenance is above and beyond the minimum requirements, I know the pilots are some of the most qualified in the business. I hug my pilots on a regular basis, as I trust my life to them 15 times a week."We've been looking for the enemy for some time now. We've finally found him. We're surrounded. That simplifies things."
