HydroGuy 0 #1 February 3, 2006 Left my car in front of my house unlocked planning to go to dinner. Never went. Someone grabbed my backpack out of my car overnight. Helmet, Protrack, Alti2, Bomber Flitesuit, logbook, goggles, gloves, B license exam I never sent in, a ready to go closing loop and a big assed bag of packing rubberbands. I now found a reason for getting your licenses taken care of as early as possible...if you lose your shit before you get them, it's going to be a pain in the ass. I almost feel ashamed of myself for the misfortunes I have been wishing upon whatever tweeker or junkie stole my stuff.Get in - Get off - Get away....repeat as neccessary
skybytch 273 #2 February 3, 2006 Suggestion - go dumpster diving. Seriously. I found my logbook, licenses, rating cards and jumpsuit in a dumpster 15 blocks from where my car was parked when some punk ass stole my bag full of stuff some years ago. You may get lucky too... NWFlyer 2 #4 February 3, 2006 That sucks. If you haven't already you might want to take a walk around your neighborhood and look in bushes and other possible dumping/hiding places for the backpack... the person who stole it might be looking for something he/she could sell easily, and might, using those criteria, have been unimpressed with what was in your backpack. Edit to add: or, what skybytch said. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

Scoop 0 #6 February 3, 2006 ...good advice... tell the police too if you havent. Might make forensic examination plus if there has been a recent trend of similar theft from motor vehicle good to make them aware. If they arent informed then they dont have the intelligence to study crime patterns etc
 HydroGuy 0 #7 February 3, 2006 I'm going to check all the pawn shops tomorrow...and browse ebay the next couple of weeks as well. I had my bag stolen on my way to work one morning, called the cops and after taking my statement, they were at the door about 45 minutes later with everything that was in my bag but the cash. So do call them!
 JohnnyD 0 #15 February 4, 2006 No worries. If you do not report your property stolen and later discover it, it will be your word against someone elses that the stuff actually belongs to you. Most states that I am aware of require pawn brokers to file detailed police reports on all items that are accepted in their shops. Also, it doesn't hurt to check the pawn shops yourself. Most pawn brokers hate thieves, and will work with you to help recover your stuff. I worked in the pawn business for 11 years, and I always loved catching thieves and returning property to the rightful owners. If you have Property Insurance that should cover it. As to making a claim, you should talk to your agent to see about the ramifications but with Replacement Cost coverage, I'd be running off to order a brand new everything for the cost of my deductible. Hmmm $500 deductible, how much does a new rig, main, reserve, AAD, helmet, gloves, alti, jump suit cost.....................Especially if you are replacing an old rig. Love to trade my old round reserve and Tomcat in a old racer container for a new Javelin with a Katana and a PD reserve. I"d put the claim in in a min.
