angryelf 0 #1 March 12, 2006 Really want to improve my canopy piloting skills and have read a few articles about GLC lately. Really interested b/c it looks like a cheap way to improve skills (no lift ticket!). I was really tempted to try to fly my rig off a slope in the desert in southern CA a couple of days ago, but presence of mind over came and I decided to do some homework first. Who is "the" GLC guru? What are the legal issues to consider? Safety? (I mean a lot of it is obvious, but I'm sure there are things to consider that aren't obvious..) Want to try everything the sport has to offer and I want to get a few more jumps b/f I try BASE, etc."Sometimes you eat the bar, and well-sometimes the bar eats you..." brianfry713 0 #3 March 13, 2006 GL and the GLC is a great and fun way to improve your canopy skills, but I've seen and heard about too many injuries and don't think it should be taken lightly. If you haven't already you should probably make at least 50 skydives and get qualified GL instruction. Don't fly over anything you wouldn't want to land on. Keep your toggles in your hands at all times, and stay off the front risers. Be careful of the stall point on toggles or rears, don't turn low, and stay clear of obstacles.
