License Study Guide

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at the license study guide in the back of the 2006 SIM
for C license study material, and I'm very curious why Section 4, category C is listed as something
to study.

Section 4 category C seems to be skills and learning objectives for AFF students.

The guide lists other parts of this section for the B license.

Am I looking at the right Section 4 category C and if so, why is that listed as a study recommendation?

Interesting question. It does look like you are looking at the correct section. That's Category "C" of the ISP, for all students, not just AFF students. The information that should be reviewed is probably the canopy control section. It looks like other ISP material is slated for review prior to taking the B and D exams. I think it does make sense to review that material, although there are no questions directly from that section on the tests I'm using, dated September 2004.

I'd suggest you review the canopy control stuff for your own benefit, but don't put too much effort into that material. There are a few canopy control type questions on the exam, but they should be pretty simple for a person with a few hundred jumps.

Anybody else have thoughts on the question? Do any other S&TA's have a newer exam set?

Thanks for your response, Tom.

I guess another quiestion I might ask is this:

My inability to be at the DZ on any occasion where they offered water training, and a general lack of effort to do so on my part, now finds me with enough jumps, and all the documented skill requirements and accuracy
landings to get the C license.

Do I need to take the B license exam at all or can I just test for the C?

To get a C you need to meet all requirements for a B including passing the exam and water training.

Dave

I knew I had to meet all the requirements including documented water training etc.

Just didnt know if I had to actually take the test too...

Yup. You do need the written test.

I've had a few people going for the D license, and they need to take the B, C, and D tests. That can be a study challenge since some of the material is different on each exam (things like opening altitude, and what license authorizes what). I generally suggest they take one test, then study for the next and take it, then study for and take the final test. I'll be happy to give all the tests at once, but folks generally do better with an hour or so between exams to do some license-specific studying.

Taking and passing the test is one of the requirements for a license.

Crap! You mean you have to pass?!?!

Nobody told me that!! ;)

Thanks dude, but thats all common sense.
What I was asking was wheather or not I had to take the B license exam to get the C license if I wasnt going to bother getting the B license.

The answer to that question isnt quite as obvious, although I suspected that it was a possibility.

I was just seeking confirmation...

To get a C license you have to meet all the requirements of the A and B licenses. That means taking and passing the test for the A and B licenses. You don’t have to get the licenses but you must meet all the requirements.

That seems very obvious
