KCJumper 0 #1 July 12, 2004 This weekends weather was beautiful and i was taking full advantage of it. Saturday managed to get 5 jumps in. On Sunday i was a little rushed between jumps one and two and did a very hurried pack job. Went up to do a very uneventful 4 way. Everything was great until opening. I pitched and in less than 250 feet was open under my Triathlon 150. I received riser burns on my left arm and my chest strap hit me in the neck. After getting to the ground i checked my leg straps, nice and tight like they always are. But when i went to pack i realized i didn't fan my slider out from the previous jump. So Sunday i truly learned what difference a slider can make. Today i'm a little sore but all is good. Patrick
chuckbrown 0 #2 July 12, 2004 You're lucky. I've seen blown up canopies, followed by cutaways from not properly setting the slider. Get into a packing routine and never deviate from it. That way when you're hurried, you'll follow your routine by muscle memory. BSBD.
parachutist 2 #3 July 12, 2004 Quotemy chest strap hit me in the neck. Like Chuck said: pick a packing style and stick with it. Also it seems as though you need a rig that fits properly. The one you have right now apparently has a neck strap, not a chest strap. When you're under canopy and you look over at either your right or left shoulder, how much space is there between the top of your shoulder and the shoulder of your rig? Or get in the habit of stowing your brakes and opening your slider in the landing area._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... FrogNog 1 #5 July 13, 2004 QuoteOr get in the habit of stowing your brakes and opening your slider in the landing area. If you do that, be vigilant about others still flying. There was a serious injury incident recently that I believe was partially caused by this behavior and a very short lapse in awareness. (Personally, I cower like a weasel and swing my head like a shark while I set my brakes and uncollapse my slider in the landing area. -=-=-=-=- Pull. masher 1 #6 July 13, 2004 QuoteOr get in the habit of stowing your brakes and opening your slider in the landing area. I put my toggles back on my velcro in the landing area. Opening my slider is part of my undressing routine. Open slider, push it down past the toggles, undo chest strap, undo legstraps, take off rig.-- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Force of habit to examine the air around me when I land just to find those that jumped with me and to make sure there wasn't a jumper landing off. After that I look back up the windline and stow my brakes - that makes it simple to see if someone is coming at you. It helps that we have a HUGE landing area. At WFFC and smaller DZs I do not stow anything._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... KCJumper 0 #8 July 14, 2004 My chest strap is where it should be. I was wearing a camera helmet on the jump adding only about 2lbs to my head. But the extra weight helped snap my neck forward. Luckily only a few sore muscles and now i'm actually ok. Thanks for all the advice just thought i would throw this out for people to see. I know i am very lucky in this situation. Thanks to all.
