lisamariewillbe 1 #1 May 10, 2006 AWESOME.... my favorite part was this.... QuoteSo how does a jumper who doesn't want to carry around a calculator figure out how much time to leave between groups? One very simple way is to just look out of the plane and wait until it has covered 1000 feet, then go. This method, originally suggested by Skratch Garrison, takes much of the figuring out of exit separation. It can be hard to determine how far 1000 feet is on the ground, but fortunately most DZ's come with a handy ruler - a runway. A 3000 foot runway allows you to put 3 groups out along its length with a bit of margin thrown in. This method also has the tremendous advantage that it requires people to look out the door, and that means they are more likely to see traffic, high canopies or clouds that could pose a hazard to their skydive. I always look out but I never even thought to base seperation on ground landmarks. Ive always asked one of the instructors on the plane how much seperation and I get a time... so I count while watching them fall away. Im on a small sabbitical but can not wait to try this out. flyangel2 2 #2 May 11, 2006 Quoteso I count while watching them fall away It's important to remember that you can still start your climb out while counting. For example: Your told to give the group in front of you a seven second count. You start counting as they exit. Don't wait till you get to seven to start your climb out. Take in account the amount of time it takes for you climb out. Many times that seven second separation turns into 12 seconds.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
lisamariewillbe 1 #3 May 11, 2006 ummmmm I am major guilty of this.... I just have my head out the door watching while counting then set up... wait at Dublin I didnt do that , so okay not all the time. Which means maybe it is my fault I always land out lol and by always I mean 3 times total.
