femjumper 0 #1 May 31, 2006 I graduate with my 1ST Bachlors Sept the 11TH. My graduation present to myself,,, Sky diving! I have always wanted to do this. Others in my class have decided to "jump on the band wagon" and want to do this as well. We are teasing the professors, that we are going jump in our caps and gowns.. (JOKE) I do have some questions though if at all possible,,, Needing to know how long or short should a beginner class be? In the 1ST class do we have the option to jump solo or tandem? Do not get me wrong, We as a group are now seeking out a good jump school in the local area. With Gross anatomy classes though; we do not have time to actually go check things out 1ST hand, IM fitting this posting in between homework now lol As soon as finals are down this semester. DJL 235 #3 May 31, 2006 The length and quality of the tandem class is different for every dropzone. I jump at Skydive Virginia and we have a longer course than most. I would say that the result of this is that the students are more aware of what is going on and it really makes them part of the experience. I've been to some dropzones (not in VA) where the student is given a 5 minute briefing and then handed off to an instructor. For these students, they're really just along for the ride, granted they still have a blast. I would also look at what aircraft a dropzone is operating. DZ's operating a Cessna 182 only go to 10.5k ft with 4 people at a time where DZ's with Otters, King Airs, and other larger aircraft typicall go to 14k ft. dragon2 2 #4 May 31, 2006 First jump course for StaticLine takes about 6 hours give or take, somewhat longer for AFF.
