ZigZagMarquis 9 #1 July 7, 2006 Can one of ya'all Perris-ites out there in the verse give me a dump on how they "handicap" things during the Iron Crank to get a level field between more and less experienced teams? I understnad the concept, but don't know exactly how its done... i.e. how is each teams handicap calculated? Yeah, I could call down to Perris, but its 2215L here in SoCal and I doubt anyone will answer the phone at this time...

Are you thinking of taking a bunch of desert rats down the hill and play with the big boys? This I've got to see.My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
ZigZagMarquis 9 #4 July 13, 2006 Maybe... I'd like to do the Iron Crank, but can never find 3 other folks that want to too, they always say they do, but when you try to get them to actaully commit, they've got a million and one excuses. Anyway, the reason I'd like to get gouged up on how they handicap the Iron Crank is they're actually starting to do a boogie or two a year at Cal City, but they always do them as "scarmbles" where you draw the team names out of a hat at the begining or someone goes into the back room and puts together the teams trying to split of the experience. Pick-up teams are fine, but I'd like to do a fun boogie / competion where we can put together our own teams if we want... problem is, all the low timers and freefliers then say, "all you high time RW folks will all get get on the same team and blow us away so we don't even want to bother"... soooo I figured if we could handicap it somehow, maybe we could level the playing field a bit... that my understanding of what they do at the Crank. Anyway, guess I need to pick-up the phone and call Perris or shoot someone there at the DZ an email and see if they reply.
riggerrob 643 #5 July 13, 2006 Just a few thoughts on organizing "fair" scrambles. Twenty-plus years ago I attended a Cessna boogie that attracted about 16 B-licensed jumpers. The four senior-most jumpers were named team captains, then the most senior team captain chose the most junior jumper, the second most senior team captain took the second most junior jumper, etc. The dive pool was pretty simple, with no outward-facing formations or complex, linked transitions. I don't remember scores, but we had fun trying!
bob.dino 1 #6 July 13, 2006 When we do Intermediate 4-way weekends, we often have a mini-comp on the Sunday. Handicap is +0.5pts for every hundred jumps under 500. So: Jumper #Jumps Handicap One 2000 0 Two 300 1 Three 140 3 Four 450 0 => Team handicap +4pts per round It's worth noting that since these weekends are aimed primarily at jumper with less than 500 jumps (tutors are provided), the handicapping system wouldn't work so well if you had a team of 15+ average jumpers in there...
