NlghtJumper 0 #27 June 6, 2006 I agree. I am in germany right now, and cloud cover is all you ever see. It absolutely sucks. There may be a day or so when it opens up, but not much. He is right though, it is extremely hard to get started on skydiving when you are in the military these days. It took me from October 05 to March 06 just to complete AFF. Thats just because I had to go home to finish them where I started. I guess all I can really do is pray for a stateside duty station next to I can give my numbers the big boost that they need! mjosparky 4 #28 June 6, 2006 QuoteThe jumping safety issue aside, is it not illegal in most places for a pilot to drop anything from his aircraft without being able to clearly see the intended landing area and ensure that it is a safe distance from civilization and Farmer McNastys' fields (since he didn't give authorization)? You are right, it is a big no no. § 105.17 Flight visibility and clearance from cloud requirements. No person may conduct a parachute operation, and no pilot in command of an aircraft may allow a parachute operation to be conducted from that aircraft— (a) Into or through a cloud, orMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
Squeak 17 #29 June 7, 2006 QuoteYup. If a DZ wants to jump through cloud, they have to submit a Cloud Jumping Procedures manual to CASA (Aussie equivalent of the FAA). This states who/when/how jumping through cloud can be undertaken and the procedures to use. I was under the impression that the cloud manuals had been suspended for the time being? You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing?

It's always overcast, unless the wind is blowing 30 mph, in which case is nice blue skys, but you still can't jump.We are all engines of karma

I hadn't heard anything along those lines, though I know there have been problems getting new manuals through CASA. I'll ask around and let you know...
