smiles 0 #1 July 28, 2006 Those with positive pull-- ever tried to put your pud back into tabs when wearing gear- (seated in the aircraft??) I've been jumping positive pull for over 15 yrs.- never had a concern....(still don't) My pud handle slides into top and bottom tabs on bottom right side of container- the top tab is just under the right closing flap. Last week loading into our porter my slot was on the bench (stradled) faced toward tail -(behind the pilot seat.) Another jumper took my seat-- so I asked him to move forward and slid onto the bench behind him. My pud must of caught and pulled out... while sliding into seat. Ride to altitude with converted engine (A-34) is only 8 min. to the top now- so being squashed in seat wasn't bad- until I checked my gear...my pud was completely out of it's tabs. I tried hard to get it into tabs but could only get the bottom tab in....(top tab of handle still out.) I asked for help re: slide the top of my handle into the top tab......a few jumpers tried but didn't understand the pud setup- they were just sliding it under the closing flap. Funny recalling my thoughts on jump run..... 1st. hmmm, launch holding on to it.....chances are the bottom tab will hold it in anyway... 2nd. hmmm, I know I can reach back and pull my pin myself if I have to.....(floating pud) door.............. 3rd. hmmm, forget it ---I'm riding the plane down. 1st. time I've ever done that- and what a ride it was!! (made my day!) The porter is amazing...the angle of the nose---my ears popping over and over...the landing absolutely rawked!! Lesson learned: pud wouldn't have released if I reached back to protect it with my hand- while getting seated in aircraft. Andrewwhyte 1 #2 July 31, 2006 Couldn't you ask someone else to replace it?
packerboy 3 #3 July 31, 2006 I know I'd be uncomfortable with people screwing with my gear in the plane if I had a PUD system. It's uncommon, and you may be asking someone who thinks they know what they are doing, but really doesn't. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
Andrewwhyte 1 #4 July 31, 2006 So does that mean that those of us with pull outs should not ask for nor accept gear checks on jump run?
BlueSBDeath 2 #5 July 31, 2006 I don't ask for gear checks, I jump a Power Racer with Pud. The reserve pins are on my back (between me and my rig) and my main closing flap has two large tabs that are very hard to open. Also, there is NO pilot chute cocked window to check, and I have a strait pin. So, I don't even bother to confuse anyone by asking for a pin check. I am my own AAD, I am just about ready for the 50 year inspection (that’s near my age; time in sport is 28 years).
