Squeak 17 #1 September 11, 2006 This is probably a repost (it seems everything is) But I'd not seen it before and it's a good demonstration of "keep fighting" all the way. He/she looks to be getting tired part way through but they perservre, and it's all good in the end http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1851799530434906028&q=skydiving&hl=enYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! Joellercoaster 6 #2 September 11, 2006 I think I'm going to get another hook knife. Watching that made me think about trying to undo my button-up Aerodyne knife with my left hand, while being spun voilently, and the first thing I thought of was dropping it. Got a Jack The Ripper pocket on my suit, I should really put something in it.-- "I'll tell you how all skydivers are judged, . PrairieDoug 0 #3 September 11, 2006 Dayum! Thanks for posting that. I agree it's a great reminder not to give up and I have a lot of respect for the jumper. However, below a certain altitude (say 1000 ft) I wonder if it's better in general to deploy the reserve and risk an entanglement rather than continuing to try to cut away. Thoughts? catfishhunter 2 #4 September 11, 2006 I think if you watch that again he had cut away the main a long time before 1000' and it looked like he was struggling to pull the reserve. He definatly had lines wrapped around his head. Woul dbe good to hear from the guy to know just what happened but thats scary shit right there. PrairieDoug 0 #5 September 11, 2006 I dunno. It looks to me that the cutaway happens quite low, not a "long time" before 1 grand. But I might just be seeing it wrong. Anyway, my original question is still valid... At some point don't you just want to get more fabric over your head? Doug
catfishhunter 2 #6 September 11, 2006 He attempts to deploy his reserve but you can see his cutaway pillow long before 3K it is just that his main is still wrapped around his head so he is still stuck on his back spinning. But again with the choppy video would need the person to come and say what happened. As to second guessing what he did..well he is alive the chances are he wouldn't have been dumping into that mess. Spinning with a main around your neck will most definatly mess up the reserve depoyment and give you a bigger ball of shit over your head and if thats all you got then you pray. This person (in my opinion) decided he didn't like those odds so much and fought as long as he could. It actually looks like they dumped the reserve with the main still wrapped on them but it came off just as the reserve was deploying.. But I will have to watch it again only watch it twice MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. We must live life to the fullest EVERY DAY. PrairieDoug 0 #7 September 11, 2006 I had assumed that he hadn't cut away because he was still spinning on his back, but now you've explained that.

Hi CFH Theres some more info on the write up thats included with the video. The dude was fighting that mess from 10K (according to the write up) If the facts in the write up is correct: Borrowed gear kills Dumb and lucky is a good combo R.I.P. R.I.P. He had lines wrapped aroung his right arm, not his head. While spinning he tried to cutaway and the force did not make that easy. He was able to partially cut away, i believe he told me one riser released. You can see one side of the cable flapping around in the video. But he still had lines wrapped around his arm. I have also seen his video of the whole thing and it is much clearer than that version. One thing is correct though, he fought that thing the entire time, he said that by the time his reserve was out, he could barely release the toggles he was so worn out, much less flare them. I'll call him and let him know his video made it here again and see if he feels like explaining. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you. catfishhunter 2 #10 September 11, 2006 Ok :) I stand corrected. Looked like he had them around his head based on how he was tugging on the lines. I should have left out QuoteHe definatly had lines wrapped around his head. and said it LOOKED like. Watched it again and yes you can tell his arm is stuck (I knew that the first time) but the reason I thought his head/camera was, is his head had very little side to side motion i.e. it looked pinned. but hey thanks for telling me my information was incorrect (which it really wasn't information just an observation ) MAKE EVERY DAY COUNT Life is Short and we never know how long we are going to have. Brains 2 #11 September 11, 2006 Quotethought his head/camera was, is his head had very little side to side motion i.e. it looked pinned. Well, yes i can see where you got that. Take your right hand and put it between your shoulder blades. Your elbow is against your right ear isn't is? Now spin around really fast I only know this because he still jumps at our dz (not where this happened) and i have seen it many many times and talked with him about it quite a bit. And regardless of how he was stuck, the thread title still stands, KEEP FIGHTING Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.
