YanBizzle 0 #1 September 13, 2006 Hello all, In the last year I have taken an interest in Skydiving, watching videos, reading and researching, and all that kind of fun stuff. During the research, I realized to my great dismay that I must be 18 to get certified. I was wondering if there are any loop holes, or ways to complete the AFF program (or another way to get certified) at 17, next summer. Or, as I fear, do I have no choice but to wait until the summer after next when I will be 18? Thanks! -Yan
AggieDave 6 #2 September 13, 2006 If you do a search here on DZ.com you'll find more then a few threads regarding to underage skydiving. The short answer is you will most likely need to wait until you're 18. You may find a DZ that you can do a tandem or even a S/L jump while you're under 18, although those DZs are quite rare. If you're really interested in skydiving, it would be in your intrest to go to your local DZ and see about getting a weekend job there. Be it as a packer, manifester or even just someone who cleans the hanger and helps fuel/load the plane. You'll find that DZs are more willing to help someone who is underage to start jumping, if they are the children of long time jumpers at that DZ or they are staff at the DZ. That's no promise that it will happen, though. All in all another year of waiting won't be the end of the world. If you get some work at a DZ you'll find that you will have learned a lot about skydiving in the mean time. Good luck!--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." howardwhite 6 #5 September 13, 2006 You're not that far from Canada. I know a 17-year-old from Massachusetts who's got close to 150 jumps there. (Helps that he worked as a packer there this summer.) HW
azureriders 0 #6 September 13, 2006 Gold Coast will do it, or least have done it in the past. However they are a good distance from you.
YanBizzle 0 #7 September 13, 2006 Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I think, in this case, that SkyDiveCT will be what I choose, as it is nearest to me. Thanks again, Yan
