jdfreefly 1 #1 August 20, 2004 Anyone know if they use a "fake" rig for tunnel training? Don't know what made me think of it, but it seems, if you were going to try and teach people how to skydive in there, you should make it as realistic as possible. Maybe just an adjustable harness with a stuffed backpack...just a thought. Methane Freefly - got stink?
FrogNog 1 #2 August 20, 2004 I thought I heard they do this - a harness with lead in it to take the place of the rig people aren't wearing. Not sure if this is everyone or just RW teams or what. I don't think they want canopies in there, though. That would get messy.
diablopilot 2 #3 August 20, 2004 Perris tunnel sometimes uses a leg strap harness much like a rock climbing harness to heep the freefly suits from moving around too much.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. LouDiamond 1 #4 August 20, 2004 QuoteAnyone know if they use a "fake" rig for tunnel training? Yes, we use stuffed containers when teaching HALO jumpers in the wind tunnel and the Knights also use dummy containers on occasion. Once students can fly they eventually move up to flying with a rucksack attached as well. piisfish 140 #5 August 20, 2004 I think I saw some Aerodyne or Advance rigs on a pic flying in the Paris windtunnel. But it was just for an advertisement I think.scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
Rdutch 0 #6 August 20, 2004 DelandScape is using Vector3s stuffid with towels, and safety tyed shut, and a little weight to simulate the gear they jump in the air. They tell me its very different. But much more realistic turning 4way with. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
Mad47 0 #7 August 21, 2004 It makes sense because the center of gravity shifts significantly when you fly w/o rig.
marcandalysse 0 #8 August 21, 2004 alysse wore a weight VEST last nite to simulate the weight of the rig on her back but actually she did that to put the center of weight on her upper body rather than the weight BELT she had been using in the tunnel..... mnealtx 0 #10 August 22, 2004 I just today got the Pier Video "Skydiving Survival Series" DVDs. In one of the movies in an advertisement, it shows what looks like the beginning of a reserve deployment in a wind tunnel!! THAT could be an interesting ride....Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim.
