billvon 3,118 #1 September 25, 2006 Had a fun weekend doing some bigways with Kate+Tony. (Also Roger, and Larry, and Dan BC.) Some highlights: I was part of a 20-way round base that was tough to fly, especially when it was being pulled on by the long stairsteps on the outside. On the plus side I got a great view of Eli flying a tube in the middle of the 20-way. (See below.) I used my bailout system at altitude for the first time. It's a small 36 liter oxygen bottle that's small enough to fit in a jumpsuit. I'd go off aircraft oxygen when the red light came on and turn on the bailout system. This was great for the last two days; I was floating on a far trail Otter, and that takes a lot more oxygen than waiting inside for an exit key. (Plus which, the people inside can stay on O2 for longer.) It's even nicer when the plane itself runs low on O2, which happened to the A plane during one of the jumps. (Notet that at 18,000 feet MSL you don't really need bailout oxygen, but it was a good opportunity to test it.) The last few days I was part of a diamond extending off the base. At some places the links were cats only; not very stable. I was glad I'd been in the tunnel recently working on toughness drills, because at several points I was throwing everything I had into a sideslide to counter the inveitable drag to the left we were getting as the line there docked. I'd never had to put that much force into a bigway skydive before.

beowulf 1 #3 September 25, 2006 What was the fall rate and was Eli able to maintain that fall rate in a sit or did drop past the formation?

Eli had no problem maintaining that speed with the additional drag from the tube.

It would be awsome if it showed the next person on the left side of the pic in the 20 way round. I must say building a 20 way round as a base from 4 planes was pretty cool!Remster
