illjudged 0 #1 August 28, 2004 I have 1 PRCP left to do then I will go up and do my first free fall. I have it down pretty good. Arch, Look, Reach, Pull. I think if I stick to it there will be no problem. I am just kind of nervous about the sensation of actually falling. Up untill now I barely get to feel it before my chute deploys. Any last minute suggestions on how to deal with the feeling and to keep calm during the jump?Ryopayss
mattjw916 2 #2 August 28, 2004 After you reach terminal you no longer feel like you are "falling". Since your speed is then relatively constant at that point the only sensation you get is the blast of the relative wind from below. (Unless you are tumbling ) Just remember to relax, arch, breathe... the calmer and more relaxed (i.e. arch without tensing up every muscle in your body if you know what I mean) your arch is, the less likely you will be to "potato chip" or spin. cruzit 0 #3 August 28, 2004 Keep in mind you are asking advice over a public forum and take it all with a grain of salt. You should really have a long talk with your instructor concerning your feelings. However, having said that....You've already mastered one of the hardest things in skydiving...getting out of the plane. You really shouldn't have that much problem if you are already accomplishing successful PRCPs. You will more than likely have your parachute pulled long before you experience any increased sensation of falling as it takes about 10 seconds or so to transition to terminal velocity. I wouldn't worry myself unduly about that. As far as preparing yourself for the jump...concentrate on the task. You know exactly how you need to perform to complete your skydive successfully, that is what you need to be worrying about. Concentrate on having a good arch on exit, not bending at the waist to look at your ripcord. Most of all, have a good time. After all, didn't you start skydiving to have fun?? You'll do great. Let us know how you do.
illjudged 0 #4 August 28, 2004 Well thanks for the input. I appreciate it. The dropzone is currently on a weatherhold. So I am gettin ready to head out and cross my fingers that I will get to jump today. But I will remember to relax on the exit and keep a good Arch. I will post again later on tonight and let you guys know how I did or if I even got to jump. Thanks for the reply'sRyopayss
