lekstrom10k 0 #29 October 27, 2006 I have made way to many water jumps, including 5 into the Detroit River With a 7mph current. I dont ever remember a canopy coming close . It was always behind me as a normal into the wind landing. The thing yahoo USPA people never stress is the lack of depth perception. I have seen people wow the wuffos by cutting away just before getting their feet wet. One guy tried to assure the rescue boat thats exactly where he was, but they saw it as 20 orso feet up .when he finally regained consciousness. An old seaplane trick was to throw out charts or floatation gear to aim at for their landing passon a calm lake..With the North Korea bomb scare going on they will probably add something to the SIM "if your in freefall and see the atomic blast cover your eyes and pull." Well it could happen and you cant be to careful. Of course others wiil say pull and then cover you eyes Thats USPA

There is still air there to breath. Perhaps. That is not guaranteed. If the canopy settles without air under it, this will be a huge problem. We did this easy experiment during my water training in a pool. Stand in waist deep water and lay the canopy on the surface. Then, bring your hand up from underneath. It will suck in and form around your hand like plastic wrap because it is Zero-P. It does this to your head and neck also. If you come up under it without an air bubble, it will cling around your head. Think through each scenario and practice it on dry land. 1- Plan to chop it 6-7 ft. (Not 40 ft, people have died doing this.) Remember to disconnect the RSL if this is the plan. 2- You can't chop it, but you have time to loosen your chest and leg straps. 3- You realize that you will be in the water with it all on and tight. Get your lungs full of air.
 Prev 1 2 Next Page 2 of 2 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
