Aircraft with Soul

Caravan has much soul. You just have to ride in one more than TWICE to feel it.

Sorry. I have more jumps out of it than any other aircraft but... no soul:|

;)

Yeah, caravan is a great ship but no soul. When you are sitting in a caravan to alttitude, it is nothing special. I think there are a few planes that really dont have any soul at all....
Caravan,
PAC 750
Otter
C-402
cresco
fletcher
.....

A fucking CASA has soul!

I believe that in order to have soul an aircraft generally must fullfil one or more of the following - made of wood/ canvas/ string, old piston engine, burning smell when the engine's running, strangely endearing major design flaw:P, important place in aviation history.

There are of course exceptions to the rule, but the Caravan don't qualify!
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

You don't see them much at "mainstream" DZs, but DC-3s always seemed very soulful to me. Back when it was a common jumpship, there were several that had extra soul, like Mr. Douglas at DeLand.

Radial engines, lots of fabric, funky sounds and smells - I think it qualifies.

Otter
.....

I think it depends on where you come from. To me, an Otter has soul, and a CASA has none. Zilcho.

But a Cessna 182, preferably with mismatched carpet on the floor, and nicked paint, and a rubber baseball stuck to the bottom of the wing to keep the inflight door from slamming up too hard -- now that has soul!

They're all airplanes that have individual personalities. Since I grew up with Otters, they do have individual personalities. Little quirks that make each one different.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

Airplanes definitely need piston engines to have soul.
Radial engines have more soul than horizontally-opposed engines, even if it is only because they have more of that "hot oil in the morning: smell.
Fabric covering equals more soul and tail wheels equal even more soul: Beech 18s, DC-3, etc.
However, I have to admit that Cariboos have the most soul. Huge, loud radial engines, oil leaks and a huge ramp.

And then there are airplanes with Merlins! Spitfire, P51, Lancaster, Mosquito.
...

The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

OK, I concede. The caravan doesnt actually have soul. But it does have a special place in my heart. I love that aircraft.

Do we all agree on the AN-2 and C-130?

There is a fine line between cockiness and confidence -- which side of the line are you on?

There must be some aircraft that sticks in your head as your favourite to jump from. And i bet it isnt because of how fast it got there.

Ahhhhh, I get it...

A lil old Cessna. Feels like being in a Volkswagen Bug driving through Colorado smokin'...

Getting a Cessna jump at my DZ is a novelty. I have bumped off a Cessna load that turned into an Otterload.

The Funny thing for me it is and always will be Porters:), the though of jumping a porter puts a smile on my face and anticapation in my belly :)
you need to go Jump Fgodz at Black nights Andy to understand ;)

The SMG is a bit like a Porter but from what I have been told a bit more cramped and I can see the character in that plane for sure, the smell of aviation fuel after refueling, the intimate getting to know my fellow skydivers armpit smells cause we are so squashed up. It is also like a big old climbing frame, great fun and has a nice big step, like being a big kid again. As long as you were not one of the last groups out and stuck down the back it is a cool plane.

The Dornier has soul for sure, can't put my finger on it but I liked that plane from the moment I got in it. Quick as to altitude and pretty spacey as far as jumpships go. The only thing is if you are on the bench on take off you slide down it so you have to hold on tight to the person in front of you! Ohh lalala

I definately want to jump the PAC 750xl and the Beech99 only cause they look so damn sexy. Does'nt really matter to me if they have personality or not, I only want to ride them the once anyway.:P
