WatchYourStep 0 #1 December 28, 2006 I'm heading to Orlando in a few weeks. I originally planned on jumping and getting 30 minutes or so of coaching in the tunnel. However I've also been camera shopping and have finally settled on which one I'll buy. If I do the tunnel time I won't be able to get the camera until May or June. If I get the camera now I won't be able to do tunnel time right now. What do you think which one would you get now? Butters 0 #3 December 28, 2006 The tunnel may improve your abilities which will improve your camera skills. Do you need a camera right now for anything in particular?"That looks dangerous." Leopold Stotch
WatchYourStep 0 #4 December 28, 2006 It's a camera for skydiving. So I don't need it, but I want it. "You start off your skydiving career with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. WatchYourStep 0 #6 December 28, 2006 Sorry I should have clarified. I already have a Sony camcorder for jumping. The camera I'm getting is a Canon XT for stills while jumping. MrBrant 0 #9 December 28, 2006 how often will you be returing to Orlando (or any other city/DZ with a tunnel?) I did 15 minutes in Eloy a couple months ago - and I will just say that it was money well spent!!

WatchYourStep 0 #11 December 28, 2006 I probably won't return to Orlando anytime soon, but I can get to Colorado and back in under a day for about $99 I did about 30 minutes at Perris in June of 2005 and I loved it that's for sure. WatchYourStep 0 #13 December 28, 2006 Are you sure about that Ed? I'm pretty sure I can just bat my eyes at the lady behind the counter and hop right in. I'll be sure to have my friends video. Well maybe.... But if that doesn't work, make sure to tell her your Ironman, and survived that double mal wrap. And get video and pics of you in the tunnel with a wingsuit so everyone can see how silly it is..... Get the camera....... sdctlc 0 #15 December 28, 2006 Well you have to figure out what it is worth yto you. What I mean is that if your not going to jump much with winter and where you live is the Tunnel time going to help in 3-4 months when the jumping locally to you picks up again. Are you planning on traveling to warmer DZ over that time? If you can get to and from Denver for under $100 you can blow rust off when your closer to steady jumping then. By geting the camera now you have a chance to play with it and get it set up as you want. The playing with it part is important as a good knowledge of pictures on the ground helps in the air in terms of settings and such for better shots. I would lean towards the camera if I had to pick as you can get somethng out of it that will help later directly. Not that the tunnel would not help it just depends on what you plans are for the next few cold months. All that said just make the Credit card companies happy and do both, you only live once!! WatchYourStep 0 #16 December 28, 2006 Thanks Scott. I'm lucky as my home DZ stays open all winter long. Obviously we don't jump as much, plus I can only go out on Sundays due to a side job (officiating high school wrestling) from Nov.-Feb. but I think I still squeezed out 30 jumps or so between Jan and March. Credit cards aren't going to happen. I'm actually just about down to a zero amount owed on my credit cards. The camera or tunnel is a gift to myself for paying off $2200 in debt in December. Eule 0 #17 December 29, 2006 One way to look at it: which one might get cheaper between now and this summer? If your tunnel time has to fit in to your Florida trip, then you probably know pretty accurately what the time will cost. You might wait for a good deal on the tunnel time - you'd have to do the research to see how likely that is. Also, it has to be a good enough deal to offset the cost of making a special trip to the tunnel. If you buy the camera now, you probably know pretty accurately what it will cost. You might wait for a sale on the camera - again, you have to research how likely that is. But since you wouldn't be making a "special trip" - unless you did something like buying it online instead of locally - the discount doesn't have to be very large to offset any extra cost. Another way to look at it: trade down. If you're fairly set on the nice camera, get 15 minutes of tunnel time instead. If your money recovers at a linear rate, if you buy the nice camera now, you'll have the money for 15 minutes of tunnel in, say, March. You get a camera now. You don't get as much tunnel time, but you get it sooner than you would if you waited until you had the money for 30 minutes' worth. EulePLF does not stand for Please Land on Face.
