Parachute as a paraglider?

Recommended Posts

I am about to take a skydiving course but i was curious whether you can sort of use a parachute as a kind of paraglider.

So if you were on top of a mountain in the alps in summer, could you launch you chute (a normal skydiving parachute/rig) and bring it up about you and then paraglide of the mountain.

Obviously you wouldn;t be able ton stay up like you can with a paraglider but would it be possible or anything to say it wouldn'tbe perfectly safe to do so?

Thanks in advance for you views and answers.

Thanks

Tim

Oh ok cool

I havent even taken my course yet but when i do in the next couple of weeks i want to be able to get the most out of my rig and the sport in general.

I will obviously be able to go out skydiving at my local centre but i want to figure out what else i can do.

So when i go climbing in the alps i can ground launch and get down that way. Thats sound pretty cool!!!!!!

What about base jumping? Do i need a special setup for that or can i use a usual skydiving rig?

Any other advice for an enthusiastic newcomer to the sport.....

Tim

Ok no probs... I'm not even planning on it until i have a few years of experience and even then it might not be for me...

That doesn't remove the curiosity thought...

Do many people just jump from buildings in the city? Surely that illegal and you;re gonna get nicked right? Or do you just float away and hide quickly?

Note sure i can see whats in the picutre but it looks like you're clinging to the side of a building.
