Do wind tunnels cause outside turbulence

Recommended Posts

Although it will greatly differ dependant on design / speed etc.... The type of outlet at the top of Skyventures tunnel will defuse the expelled air to relatively low speeds...

ie. Large volume of air goes in the bottom... is constricted to high speed in the flight chamber... then is expanded/defused out of the top.... so shouldnt be a problem I guess.

Yeah. At rantoul the area over the open air wind tunnel is a "no fly" zone. Design has a lot to do with how far around and above the wind tunnel there will be turbulence.

Although it is fun to watch the bats and owls circling the tunnel looking for bugs that got attracted by the lights and then sucked up through the fans. Note that this is also why it's a bad idea to wear a white suit in an open-circuit tunnel.

The is true only when the incoming air is not filtered first like in current skyventure units... Fortunately, not ALL open-circuit tunnels are that way.:)
