dropzone_moron 0 #3 February 19, 2007 I'm a newbie to the sport, and I rent my gear. Since I don't jump every week, I want to have to have the setup, packing, and break down burn into my head so that I don't have to refer to the chart posted at the school. ltdiver 3 #4 February 19, 2007 What kind of rig and canopy do you rent? Where do you jump? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
brettski74 0 #5 February 19, 2007 QuoteSince I don't jump every week, I want to have to have the setup, packing, and break down burn into my head so that I don't have to refer to the chart posted at the school. Ever think of taking a photo of the chart on the wall? Use a tripod if you have one, cos that will give you a more steady shot. I used this with my friends when we were driving around some city in France (Grenoble, I think) and didn't have a map. We just stopped at a bus stop and took a picture of the map that was there and then navigated by zooming in on the little LCD screen on the back of the camera. We found the hotel in no time. Of course, you'll be able to go home and print out a copy of your photo. If the chart is too big for one good photo, then take several. Failing all that, maybe you could ask the school if they have a copy you could take home.

billvon 3,098 #8 February 19, 2007 Bill Hazlett did an excellent video on packing the Triathalon a while back. It's for the Triathalon but it's applicable to any ram-air, really. I wonder if Aerodyne still has that; it would be a 'blast from the past' at this point.
dropzone_moron 0 #9 February 20, 2007 Itdiver, The dropzone I go to is Perris, CA. I don't remember the brand, but it's a 7 cell 230 square foot main. Ironmanjay and Karl - I appreciate the links, and thank you for your help. These will do just fine!
ltdiver 3 #10 February 20, 2007 QuoteItdiver, The dropzone I go to is Perris, CA. I don't remember the brand, but it's a 7 cell 230 square foot main. Perris. Cool. Look me up next time you're there (weekends). I believe that Perris continues to use the Navigator. A 230 would be hard to PRO pack without a hook. Unless you're pretty tall. Are they teaching you to hook or flat pack? ltdiver PS: You're manual for the PD main canopy is near the bottom of this web page. dropzone_moron 0 #11 February 20, 2007 Doreen at the school taught me to pack using a hook, and I continue to do so. I have 45 jumps with good landing, so I may try a 210 the next time out. The problem I have with the 230 is that it takes me forever to repack. My name is Noel. What's your name itdiver?

You'll discover things long after you leave the 'student nest'. Cool, you're packing with a hook. The design of packing is the same as when it's over the shoulder (like in the manual). Doreen is a great packing guru. She'll steer you right. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
GPSJane 0 #13 February 20, 2007 I good way to do it would be to film someone packing the rig step by step. That's we do it. There's some footage of someone pro packing and we all just taped it and took it home with us. You can do the same with flat packing and a hook, whatever that is. You could also take stills if you want to carry it with you but by far the easiest way is to pack in front of the TV with a remote in hand.Only skydivers know why the birds sing; they don't have to pack a parachute! IanHarrop 42 #14 February 20, 2007 There used to be a good tutorial on packing on Sid's Rigging site. http://www.sidsrigging.com/skydivers/skydivers_index.htm The link is currently broken but he also sell the tutorial for cheap. http://www.cafepress.com/sidspecialties.5768447"Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
