dweeb 0 #1 March 18, 2007 for my summer vacation this year. I live in San Diego, so there are great places here. Should I stay around town and hook up with a coach or should I take a road trip to a different DZ and spend my week there? I've fallen out of currency after jumping the jet in Perris. Where would I benefit most from a week of coached jumps?
Vectracide 0 #2 March 18, 2007 Don't limit yourself to just the sky......especially if you are only focusing on belly. Tunnel is another great option. If jump for 7 days...and jump hard, like lets say 7 jump a day average...thats 49 jumps. Lets just make it 50 to round it out. 2 slots = maybe 44 bucks Coach price = what....around 20 bucks per jump? Total per jump = 64 average.... If you get a coach that will jump for slot only, its still 44 a jump Worst case = 64x7x7= $3136 Best case = 44x7x7= $2156 Ok, so tunnel is around $700 an hour. At the above rates, you can get 3 hours for the same price. You can learn a lot more in the tunnel that you can in the sky...especially at your level right now. Even if you did 2 hours and spent the other 700 in the sky, working on what you are learning in the tunnel, thats 30 jumps. Point here is, spending all your cash on in air coached jumps, is an extremely expensive way to spend all your money...and your not going to get that many jumps out of it. If you combine tunnel with focused in air jumps....your learning curve will accelerate dramatically. Perris tunnel is the closest to you, but there is Eloy with some of the best tunnel coaches around. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate..... FallingDuck 0 #3 March 18, 2007 If all you want to do is get the coaching jumps to improve then you may just want to look arond at where you can get the most jumps at the best price. Also jumping at a new place can be fun, and new people can show you things that you didn't think of before.
Gawain 0 #4 March 18, 2007 Try some coach jumps at Elsinore. They're very good with young-jumpers in the sport. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! LloydDobbler 2 #5 March 18, 2007 Yeah. I'd agree with Vectracide above. Spend some time in the tunnel, if resources will allow. I've only got about 45 mins of tunnel time, and it's made a world of difference in every jump I've made since. Anyway, like someone else said, Elsinore also has great coaches if you're looking to do some coach jumps. At Perris, I've flown with a few tunnel coaches who have been really good. If you decide to come up this way, and would like some names of tunnel coaches, drop me a PM and I'll relay anything I know.Signatures are the new black. Pulse 0 #6 March 19, 2007 I guess my question is: What is your goal? If it is simply to 'get better at skydiving'. Then avoid the tunnel. Go skydiving instead. With the jump number I see on your profile you could spend that time flying your canopy too. Consider that your canopy will be about three to four times longer than your feefall. Those two hours of freefall time will translate to six to eight hours of canopy time. The notion that you can learn more in the tunnel than in the air is wrong and right depending how you look at it."Any language where the unassuming word fly signifies an annoying insect, a means of travel, and a critical part of a gentleman's apparel is clearly asking to be mangled." philly51 0 #7 March 19, 2007 Wherever you go, first ask manifest if there is anyone who would take you under there wing for the day. If you're lucky to find one, please be honest about your experience level and limitations. Might not cost you a dime. I think that it's a shame that anyone, after acquiring an A license has to pay to jump with someone. If you can get to Cross Keys, look me up. I'll pay for my own slot and jump with you. Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, Shouting "...holy shit...what a ride!"
