dorbie 0 #1 March 24, 2007 I've heard of this but I hadn't seen it until now. So naturally I thought I'd share. It was his second jump. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90yNsoCeORQ&mode=related&search= Unlike Lutz he didn't hit powerlines but his reserve was a round so he gets no points for that. But he does admit to being a wally, so you've got to respect that honest evaluation.
docjohn 0 #2 March 24, 2007 FYI, that cllip came from The Wally Stuff produced by Leo Dickenson and Pete Reynolds. Haven't seen that one in a long time. Thanks for sharing. Doc http://www.manifestmaster.com/video

dbattman 0 #4 March 24, 2007 I wonder if he had any prior experience on a military rig or an older one. If I'm not mistaken the military setups and the old rounds had the deployment handle located at the cutaway position on a modern sport rig.

But on my first couple recurrency jump a few years ago after a long layoff, where my previous rig had the main ripcord handle on the right MLW, it was all I could do to keep myself from doing the same thing. Seriously. Old ingrained training dies hard.
dorbie 0 #7 March 25, 2007 Yup, it's not such a biggie IMHO, sure it's a bad screwup but he's a student. The Lutz video enters a unique level of absurdity thanks to the commentary of the commentator and the skydiving Wylee Coyote himself. Branson's RSL worked so the similarity ended there, and to his credit Lutz did pull silver. If he'd admitted his screwup (OK and missed the powerlines) Lutz would have earned back some respect I think.
