FinlanderSisu 0 #1 October 13, 2004 About 3 weeks ago did my first tandem jump, the following weekend did my first Static line, Weather stopped student jumping this last weekend. Question is my neck has been sore since the first jump. A little sore feeling like if I had slept on it wrong, nothing major. Last couple days has been getting worse, this morning OUCH. Going to the Doc on Friday to get it checked on. Don't get me wrong im not whining or wanting $$ ,my big concern is when Im going to get back on the C182. Becoming Very passionate about this sport and like a profesional football player don't want to sit a season out. Is there anything I might have done wrong. Something I can do better to prevent in the future? Anyone else have this happen jumping?
quade 4 #2 October 13, 2004 Quote Anyone else have this happen jumping? The occassional hard opening or out of position opening and associated stiff neck is part of the sport and happens to -everyone-. It doesn't matter if you have the softest opening canopy of all time and are trying to have perfect openings every time, it -will- occasionally happen. Neck stretches and exercises aren't a bad idea. mattjw916 2 #3 October 13, 2004 Don't forget that skydiving is a physical activity and as such you should thoroughly stretch before you do it. When I first started AFF my lower back was sore after only a couple jumps each day... probably due to the fact I was using muscles that were previously just along for the ride. Talk to your doctor of course, but it is probably just a strain. Stretching and working out will make you a bit more resilient to minor muscles aches and pain, just like any sport.NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
FinlanderSisu 0 #4 October 13, 2004 I appreciate everyones input. Don't know what I was thinking, never even thought about stretching as didn't think it was that strenous of a sport will definately be doing neck and additional stretching. Learning the hard way much like the first time to the golf driving range and feeling like Lennox Lewis had his way with my ribs.
AggieDave 6 #5 October 13, 2004 Yup, it happens, it even has happened to me (about this time last year). Find a good chiropractor, that's what did the trick for me. He treated the muscle spasms first then adjusted me back in place. It took a couple weeks and 2 more visits to get rid of the pain 100%, but that's to be expected. The muscles spasm against the out of aline vertabre, once there back in line the muscles still pull with the injury, it takes a couple of adjustments to get everything back in line. My chirpractor didn't charge me for the x-rays he wanted to do (to make sure there were no fractures or anything like that), he didn't charge me for the physical theropy time it took working out the muscle spasms, he only charged me for the adjustment (at a lower rate too), since I'm a college student and chiropractors aren't covered by my insurance.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
