New guy with AFF question

Recommended Posts

First off, this is a great community, I have really enjoyed reading the discussions over the last two weeks since I jumped.

My question is this. After completing my first level AFF I'm looking at getting licensed and I noticed that some DZ's do AFF in 7 and some in 8 jumps. What's the difference?

Presentation, number of TLO's (targeted learning objectives) per level, stress per level. I've worked at places that did both kinds of training. Both can work. Doing it in seven levels can save you some money, but it also makes it more likely that you will have to repeat a level (usually it's level 3) and you don't get quite as much training before you are 'set free' so to speak. I would recommend not doing a 7 level program at a place that does not have an ISP or something similar. (ISP is the integrated student program, a less formal extension of AFF that concentrates on basic solo and small RW skills.) If it does implement the ISP or something similar, it's less of an issue since you will still be under supervision to some extent.
