freefaller76 0 #1 November 17, 2003 I just got off student status and plan to buy a jumpsuit this winter. I am told that I fall fast because I tend to arch pretty hard. I've heard that the type of jumpsuit you buy can make a big difference. What kind of fabric/fit should I be looking at? A loose fit to produce more drag? Furthermore what's the story on "booties"? Do they help any? Any recommendations for a first jumpsuit (ie Tony Suit, Flight suit, etc?) I would eventually like to get into RW.
kai2k1 0 #2 November 17, 2003 For what its worth: I brought this up with one of my instructors yesterday when i was at the DZ. He told me to buy a RW suit with grippers and make it a little baggy since I have a fast fall rate. Also if your fall rate is fast, try de-arching just a bit to slow your fall rate down. As far as booties go, thats totally up to you. There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan
mr2mk1g 10 #3 November 17, 2003 Get some coaching on your fall rate first. You might actually be a very slow faller who has adopted a very fast falling position. It would be a big waste of money to buy a suit that slows you down when you really want one that speeds you up. I'll repeat: SEND NO MONEY NOW Yes suit design/material will make a big difference, but like I said, find out which way you want to go - faster or slower. Your fast arch position is the first thing that you need to change, not your clothing. Get your possition sorted first then get a suit to suit your fall rate (pun intended) Edit: oh yeah... and booties are a must if you want to do RW. They aren't that important for learning RW to begin with; they're really only an issue when you get to more advanced RW.
Nightingale 0 #7 November 17, 2003 anyone know if its possible to get a Zute Suit (or other kind) with booties, but with the student style knee/butt reinforcement? I want my own suit, but I don't want one I'm gonna rip to shreads on my first rotten landing... I have a LOT of rotten landings.
