Many DZs Require AADs (Was: Cypress Question in Gear & Rigging Forum)

...I still wouldn't use the word "many".

Is that what this is about ?? Whether the number satisfies your definition of "many" in order to pick apart Terry's statement? So far, you have several (defined as, "more than two but less than many") and you have a few entire countries using this rule.

These are interesting facts to know, just cool out on worrying about whether it is "many" or not. Jeeze.:S

You have to add the REST OF THE WORLD. My comment, in context, was not aimed at U.S. only. I didn't take the time to look to see where the original poster was from and aimed by comments globally.

IMHO I think were up to "many" world wide.:P;)

All Canadian students (i.e. less than 25 jumps and an A Certificate) are required to wear AADs.
After that, individual DZOs get to decide.
Every year, more and more Canadian DZs require AADs for everyone.
For example, Pitt Meadows, Beiseker, Dunnville and all the big DZs in Quebec require everyone to wear AADs.

Ah, but dose it have to be turned on? And who checks to see it is?

AFAIK most countries demand that if an AAD is installed it must be turned on.
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

no, No, NO... this is NOT to pick apart Terry's words.

Two things... 1st) I was trying to stobe the DZ.com verse to try to figure out really how many of the DZs in the U.S. require AADs for experienced jumpers because, frankly, I've heard it thrown around that "many" (or... a lot... or... lots... or... several... or... a majority... or
2nd) Of course, there's the rest of the world too. Skydiving and DZ.com (especially) is not U.S.-centric (as has been pointed out to me many times... :P)... its intersting to see that in a lot of other places around the world, it seems there's more places were AADs are mandatory for experienced jumpers then in the U.S.

That's all.

I hear that many drop zones are now requiring skydivers to use parachutes!

Just how many big DZ's are there in Quebec? A few, several, or many?;)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

According to CANPARA Magazine (June/July 2007), there are nine CSPA Member Groups in Quebec.
Further reading reveals that three of them only operate single Cessnas.
Two more operate pairs of Cessnas.

Adrenaline (St. Jerome) operates a pair of Cessna 206s and trained seven new certificate-holders.

Atmosph Air (St. Jean Chrysotome) operates a pair of piston-pounding Cessnas, a Cessna 208 and a Bonanza (??? maybe they meant a Twin Bonanza???), but did not mention any new certificate-holders.

Nouvel Air (Farnham) flies a trio of Beech 18s and a Twin Otter ... and trained 13 certificate-holders recently.
Voltige (Lourdes de Jolliette) fly a Grand Caravan and a pimped-out Cessna 182 and mentioned one new certificate-holder.

So that sounds like only three Quebec DZS operate turbines, and only four DZs do the bulk of the business in Quebec.

This small sample does not reveal how many Quebec DZs focus on being "tandem factories," but I do know that Nouvel Air graduated sixty (60) PFF students in May!

Trivia: the busiest DZ - outside of Quebec - is the the Canadian Forces School of Search and Rescue (on the West Coast), which trained eight new certificate-holders.

To answer your question: there are four busy DZs in Quebec.
