rgbnz 0 #1 July 16, 2007 I want to break the world record for a tandem jump previously recorded at 35,100feet. I'm looking for someone crazy enough to jump with me. You don't need your own gear. Jump will be in New Zealand (ether Auckland or Taupo) the adventure capital of the world. I'm also seeking sponsorship for the event so if you want to sponsor or you know someone that might want to sponsor the event please contact me rory@vodafone.net.nz

BillyVance 35 #3 July 16, 2007 Who holds the record? I think I recall Fast Eddie Grantland doing a tandem above 30K feet out of Mullin's King Air, but I don't remember any details."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
riggerrob 643 #4 July 16, 2007 Start thinking about a pressure suit, several hours of pre-breathing, a ride in an altitude simulation chamber, FAA Aircrew Medical, hiring a HALO physiologist, etc.
MikeForsythe 0 #5 July 16, 2007 You don't need a pressure suit to do 40K. And Rob, don't ask how I know because I would have to kill you if I told you. Time and pressure will always show you who a person really is!

billvon 3,110 #7 July 16, 2007 > Start thinking about a pressure suit . . . You don't need a pressure suit up to about 42,000 feet. At 42,000 feet, 100% O2 simulates an altitude somewhat above sea level; you can breathe normally (provided you prebreathe to prevent decompression sickness.) Above 60,000 feet you need a pressure suit because at that pressure water boils at 98.6 degrees (body temperature.) So all the water would boil out of your body; not a good thing. Between those two extremes are the areas that overpressure will help. A "no pressure suit" record going to 48,000 feet, for example, might go something like this: 1) All crew members prebreathe O2 to flush nitrogen. 2) Aircraft climbs to 48,000 feet. Cabin altitude is maintained at 15,000 feet. 3) Cabin is depressurized and all crew go on overpressure O2. This increases the pressure of oxygen being breathed. It is _very_ hard to exhale (this is how the Superior systems work before the diverter valve is added) but increases the ppO2 seen by your lungs. 4) Jumper exits and falls rapidly to 30,000 feet or so, at which point system reverts back to normal pressure 100% O2. 5) Cabin is repressurized to 15,000 feet for the descent. kelpdiver 2 #10 July 17, 2007 QuoteTwo men from the South African Milatary currently have an application processing for the world record at 35,100feet Should this be a world record category? Tandem may add some complexity, but there is a record for highest skydive, one that's 3x higher.
LouDiamond 1 #11 July 17, 2007 AF aerospace Physiology defines FL 500 or 50k and above as the Space equivalent zone and a pressure suit is required. 50k down to 10K is defined as the physiological deficient zone where trapped gas in the body/tissues/intestinal tract becomes an issue and supplimentary O2 is obviously needed to negate the effects of DCS(decompression sickness) and/or hypoxia. As far as I know, 40k is and has been the exit altitude of a small military group in Sweden that annually conducts jumps at this altitude to include tandems without pressure suits."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
