steveorino 7 #26 May 14, 2007 Thanks for sharing. I love stories from back in the day. I could have had my first jump in '78 because I was on a SF HALO/SCUBA team. I went to SCUBA, and when it came for my time to go to HALO school I ETSed because I didn't want to extend. My biggest regret in life. steveOrino
Booster_MPS 0 #27 May 14, 2007 Mine came on jump 51 for me a few weeks back and it was really special because I have a lot of respect for the people that organized it and flew it with me. The 9th person flying video was one of my best instructors so it was really special to see her come into the round last to join us. It was a very simple formation and plan, but an extremely gratifying jump for me.
sfullerman 0 #28 May 14, 2007 Jump #28 1982 Mardi Gras Boogie Covington ,LA Out of Mr Douglas. Got on the plane with a 4-way, started talking to another 4-way group...half way up it turned into a 8wayMy brother and I were the only two at the boogie jumping rounds and bellywart reserves. So it was probably a sympathy 8-way.....but we were okay with that.
fastphil 0 #29 May 14, 2007 Congrats, Steveorino. We used to require two cases of beer from new recipients, one for pouring on them and one for drinking. We also once built an eight way around a guy on his first jump, please don't let the DZO find out...

AMax 0 #31 May 14, 2007 Quote Now you're trying to make me feel REALLY bad for not having one. You can probably qualify for an SCR award if you quickly form an 8-way round with 7 people in your sector before they track off

I told all the guys (4 of us) to buy good beer and no cheap stuff, so they'd drink more and pour less. Sounded like a good idea, but I'm not so sure it worked. I was soaked! steveOrino

You joined a select rank, there was a time when the SCR meant more than a USPA liscence, and would get you an invitation on jumps. the Bob Buquor awards were an indicator of "seasoning", and everyone chased these (and other) numbers. rapter 0 #36 May 15, 2007 Ummmm... Rule Breakers!! I'm telling Bill. Hell, he was there. Last I saw him was at Lou Paproski's ash dive last year. http://www.scr-awards.com/ Only the good die young, so I have found immortality,
bob.dino 1 #37 May 15, 2007 Starcrests are part of the Australian licencing scheme. You must do 3 jumps, entering fifth or later each time, to be allowed jump in groups larger than 8 people. My home dropzone doesn't like signing off on C licences (100 jumps) unless people have attained their starcrest. After one embarrassing attempt on jump 51, I did mine on jumps 97, 98, & 99. Squeak 17 #39 May 15, 2007 Quote Quote Sorry, for those of us who are not USPA members, what's an SCR? Thats a secret. Sorry. I had about 100 jumps when i got mine, but we have a different system for Star Crests, you have to dock 5th or later on an 8-10 way on threes separate dives. You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! joblades 0 #50 May 16, 2007 Jump #32, at SD Dallas we have a some good FS organizers and they are always willing to do SCR jumps. I was on my way back overseas, and given that a couple of guys are vets they were more than willing to come along for the ride. We actually turned 4 points too, round-zipper-4way 360 turn-round. See pics~Freedom is never free
