skypapa 0 #1 November 14, 2007 Obviously some of the bigger well known DZ's have come to accept their services. Why can't you? I bet each and every one of you would be surprised at the level of interest Skyride has generated for skydiving as a whole. Is it possible that everyone in the sport has benefited from that generated interest to some degree? I think so. So they have stolen some copyrighted images, in the age of the internet who hasn't? Has this caused any physical harm to anybody? I don't think so. Has it caused monetary damages, perhaps, but how in the hell can you measure that? And if you could measure it, it would probably be pretty slim. Have they perhaps stolen a customer or two from any given DZ? Maybe, but business is business, it is cut throat. Instead of crying about it perhaps you should take the same approach and find a way to steal their customers. Humm, thats an idea. I have a hard time believing for as long as this has gone on, no one has been able to figure out a way to beat them at their own game. Are you telling me you cant beat them? Well then how about joining them? Imagine how much money everyone would make if all DZ's accepted skyride. Put up, shut up or sign up. It really is that easy. DougH 270 #15 November 14, 2007 Hey lets give this a thought!!! While we are at it I think we should give pimps, drug dealers, and wife beaters some slack too!! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
davelepka 4 #16 November 14, 2007 QuoteIf they are so unethical and so bad for the sport, why have so many dz's agreed to accept their certificates? It simple really, they use stolen images and web content to create websites for DZ that don't exist and then proceed to sell skydives to people in one geographic area for a DZ in another geographic area. DZs are left to accept one of two things; either a portion of their customer base will take their money elsewhere, or they have to accept the Skyride certificates. Which would you do? The Skyride guys are taking advantage of the internet to strong-arm their way into the revenue stream from tandem jumps. It's a shitty thing to do. peregrinerose 0 #18 November 14, 2007 As a professional outside of skydiving, I do not associate or work with companies that show dubious ethical practices, for I feel it reflects poorly on me as an eye care provider. I doubt that skydiving buisinesses are much different. If skyride behaved in an ethical manner, I doubt anyone would have a problem with it. Stealing photos, misrepresenting locations, misleading patrons are all unethical behaviors... something that I doubt many of us would be comfortable associating with. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

billvon 3,096 #24 November 14, 2007 Drop the egos morals and get on with business. Yep. If all you care about is money, Skyride could indeed be the way to go. Of course, another company could come along, perform a DoS attack on the Skyride website, take over their phone number with some sleight-of-hand (i.e. call the phone company, pretend to be Skyride and ask to give up the number) and intercept any Google searches for Skyride via a bit of hacking. Then they'd be making all the money. And they'd be making it more ethically than Skyride, sadly. Would you then advise people to "drop the egos, take the new certificates and get on with business?" The problem you are running into is that some DZO's care about things other than money. Sucks, doesn't it?
